light jig and small soft plastic catch everythng - including panfish

These are just a few of the lures that have caught hundreds of fish:

including this white sucker:

and this 7# catfish

white perch

yellow perch

decent crappie

bass

sunfish

chain pickerel

Some days you can catch 4 species in on lake. Many shapes do well:
wacky mini-stick:

curl tails:

swimbaits:

cone tails:

straight thin tails:

Nice thing is being able to make most of the lu res shown - rigged on light jigs.

This one I designed after watching a video:

The shape and action should get at least a few strikes.

Love me some soft plastics and a sickle hook jighead. Can't remember the last time we bought minnows for Crappie. I'm partial to the Bobby Garland straight tail or Strike King Slab Slanger.

Great looking baits. I am a huge fan of plastics. Catch fish and don’t make you feel like jumping in the lake to retrieve if snagged!

With the prices of hard baits going up, soft plastics are the way to go and still cover water though slower (and most times more effectively).
A gal. jug of plastisol can produce 1000 or more lures for less than a few cents each. Molds last forever and single-pour molds are very cheap on Ebay.

Now that I've found how to attach parts of two lures together using a candle flame, new lure shapes/sizes/designs/actions are unlimited!
I.E. a French Fry plastic stick segment attached to the tail of a hand-poured stick:

Catches everything!
The lure at the beginning of the post is similar except the tail was from a hand-poured mini-stick.

Gotta love making your own. Got about 10 molds now even making my own out of silicone. So far my best would be a craw pattern getting a lot of different species. Thanks for sharing.

Here’s the musky lure I did out of silicone mold. Plus the craw that works.

Can you elaborate a bit on those jig heads? Specifically what looks like the bait keeper? That a home made, or commercial design? I assume you're a fan of it.

Like many anglers that use soft plastics and jigs, after a while they slide down - especially with no-collar jigs which do the least damage. (I get mine from Ebay and Amazon). I discovered the grub grip over 10 years ago and also use it on my skirted bass jigs with trailers (more on that later.) What you need:
Coated wire - the kind used for artificial flower arrangements) - can be bought anywhere.
24g is the best for most jig weights.

Pliers and wire cutters to tighten the wire under the eye tie.

1. Cut the wire as shown so that one end is near the curve of the hook but of equal length on both sides of the line tie:

2. Wrap the wire once around tightly with the pliers:

3. Clip one part of the wire close:

4. Bend the remaining wire as shown. This will swing in and out of the plastic but holds no matter how many fish you catch:

5. ...and the wire never affects the bite:

I use it for all soft plastics rigged on jig heads.

I use the same wire for skirted jig trailer that are nose-hooked:
1. put the trailer on the hook
2. wrap the wire once around
3. stick the wire ends into the plastic.

It allows the best trailer action and keeps it on the hook.
No one to my knowledge has ever tried the above methods no matter how many times I've posted it. You might be the first.

If I'm forced to buy jigs of a certain wt./hook size that has collar, I flatten it with pliers and cut it off with wire cutters. Then I install the grub grip wire.
Hope you give it a try. U won't be sorry.

I'm definitely going to give it a try. They slide down , especially when chewed to shreds.

Just make sure of the wire guage. Too thin and it might not hold as well; too thick and it's harder to wrap tight around the eye tye base. Plus, better that the wire is too long than too short. I make it long enough so the L inserts half way down the lure's body.

Thanks for the tip. I'll give it a go. My favorite jig heads don't have keepers on them and adjusting constantly is a pain. I appreciate the detailed response.

Never did a plaster. Seeing you like doing your own here something I did. Made a little clay one then molded it. Something like your little jig one. I also did a small swimbait out of clay.
As for that craw make them a brownish green.

No doubt that will catch a bunch and some big ones at that!
Here's somethin else you and others might try as an example using scissors and a candle:
An unchanged lure can catch fish, but suppose I want to change its shape or length.
Originals: French Fry Stick and plastic worm:

I cut some pieces from both (sky's the limit what pieces and lengths to be joined):

Hold the ends briefly over a candle flame and hold together for 4 seconds:

result:

The profile, size and action is unique and has caught fish!

Example attaching a Mojo grub tail to a Fr.Fry body:

Adding a curl tail to it:

Gives you an idea how just a little imagination can create lures that no one has ever seen to catch fish by the boatload!
Try it, you'll like it!
