good bait for the allegheny river

So this summer i am going on a camping trip on the Allegheny river and i was wondering what a good common bait would be for this trip, and what color if anyone knows.
I've been told stickbaits work well but im not sure what color.

thanks in advance

Best bait is to catch your own from the river itself. Catch soft-shell crawfish, also look in the shallows, use #14-16 hook tipped with maggots for river minnows. Jerk baits work well, weightless flukes, and also 3/16 Terminator finesse jig green pumpkin orange w/crawfish trailer. Tubes always work.

You say your going in summer. It all depends on the weather if it’s hot, it is a shallow river and not much happens. What you going for all depends on baits. If you just want to catch something crayfish, worm, or minnow. I make my own plastics so I fish them a lot.

On the Allegheny river I personally have noticed that perch colored baits work very well. Anything from a classic floating Rapala to more of a jerkbait like a husky jerk. Bottom bouncing night crawlers also works well in the deeper holes for walleye. Don't over look just a plain jig and soft plastic like a Mr twister or Berkley power minnow. Plenty of walleye and smallmouth bass have been caught on those baits.

Truly amazing the number of soft plastic shapes and actions that catch most fish species. In one day I caught 5 species on one design. For me, rotating soft plastics make fishing interesting just to see what catches fish. I'm up to about 30 different ones with more ready for spring '21.
