deer kill

Started off slow but soon picked up,so far 6 out of 8 of our gang got bucks & a few got does also.I read in the pa.outdoor mag. that they shot a poss.record amount of deer in Archery season & from the reports I got that the deer processors in our area were swamped first day. They were warning people that wanted to drop off deer for the hunters helping the hungry program to call first because some of them were at their limit already. As a side note my son shot a very nice buck that was trailing a doe & several other hunters told me of seeing bucks with their nose on the ground trailing does as well. They told me it looks like the rut was finally kicking in around here.I really miss going out this year, especialy playing in the snow with my snow camo. Only 1 coyote seen,no shot given. Good luck this week-end,BE CAREFUL.  sam

First day in ohio was soggy. Seen 8 deer by 930am. 6 doe and 2 small bucks. Decided on a mercy kill of a small 5 point. Be had a infection the size of a baseball under his one eye. Looks like an antler got him while fighting. Now im hoping for a baldy saturday.

Haven't seen any deer at all in the past few months, probably hanging it up for the year.

I hunted the past 2 days (today's off our asses are kicked) tomorrow starts the slaughter. Yesterday first drive we got a 11pt Chuck's biggest buck ever and the day before we got 2 . Drive master got a decent 7 pt and old man shot a dandy 8pt probably one of his best bucks ever. Guy is almost 90 and still puts in the work with us boys . Season is off to a great start! We kicked up another wall hanger 8pt yesterday 5 guys no guns😂 and he managed to get around the posters he really don't know how lucky he is. Gonna smack some paper make sure the cz is still on. Tomorrow the truck beds are getting filled. Good luck to everyone shoot straight punch them tags!

outasync, The buck that my son shot had a hole in the skull just under the eye that was infected with the right side of his face swollen & pus coming out of it. Also had a few punctures in his shoulder area & 2 pts broken. With the size of his buck I would have liked to see the one that kicked his butt. Also this one was covered in ticks.   sam

This was a tiny scrub 5 pt running with a basket 8 pt. The left side of his face had a ball like a baseball was stuck to his cheek just under the eye. I could see it in my scope from 80 yards away. I hated shooting such a small buck on the first day but by the looks of it i couldnt let it go.

^^^ It’s amazing how much some bucks can get busted up fighting. I shot one in doe season a few years back that had both antlers broken off; an eye gouged out (empty socket); teeth knocked out; and upper jaw split. If it hadn’t been for all the healed over puncture wounds on its face and upper neck, I would have thought it tangled with a car and not another buck.

Everything I say can be fully substantiated by my own opinion.

That day panfisher was the worst day of driving iv ever had physically the snow was 1-4 feet in spots with the brush actually a savior on some drives, you could walk or swim over it. Today was busy alot of guys out we got 2 doe and a nice 8pt. Some guys sat the morning well 3 yielded a coyote and 2 does each for the 2 other guys . Our drives got fd over a few times and just unsuccessful, On most. I missed a gimme shot on a doe first drive I waited (trying to get the big ones and be patient) it turned out being a good doe but after my gimme I shot once missed (I shouldn't have) then it ran to the house and stopped on the yard lol I couldn't shoot of coarse, should of had a guy in the yard dang it

Our 5 guns at camp are 0/5 for buck so far. We are not doe hunting this year during rifle due to numbers being down. They have killed several nice bucks on some adjoining properties. This past Saturday 12/5 doe came in in 2A and it was dead. Nobody hunting.

I hunted in the Butler County portion of 2B yesterday.  It's been several years since I've hunted there in gun season.  From 1 PM till dark, I only heard 3 shots!  Absolutely unheard of in the past when I've gun hunted in 2B, especially on a Saturday.

Had some natural movement after it was done sleeting sideways and light was fading, but at 75 yards with fogged up glasses and a fogged up old, cheap scope on my old .30/30 (gave my 17 year old the good .243 with a good scope) couldn't tell if I was looking at a big doe or a small buck.  Left my binos in the car, but they'd have probably been fogged up too.

Hit a farm game cooperator this morning that I haven't hunted yet this fall. The guy lets anybody hunt that asks. I decided to take my little 22/250 with me as I always wanted to take a deer with it. I wasn't expecting much. In the gray light of dawn had 3 come past me at 50 yards but I couldn't be certain they didn't have horns so I held off. About 9, I took a little walk to a familiar stump and sat till 10. I decided to move up the ridge another 100 yards and 3 deer exploding from their beds in a dead ash tree. They were bedded 80 yards from me and we never saw each other until I eased closer. Once I got to where I wanted to be I caught just a slight flick of white and finally made out 2 deer feeding. In the steady wind, I was able to sneak into about 70 yards and put a 55 grain bullet behind the shoulder. Down for the count! Pretty impressed with the performance of the 22/250.

Congrats! My buddy put a few deer down with a 22/250 over the past few years. They are impressive little guns.

Haven't made it out yet to try and fill a doe tag. May be holding both tags to give it a go in the late season. Still haven't taken one with the flintlock yet, so maybe this year will be the year.

I am saving my last 2A tag for flintlock. Love that season.
