Was thinking of trying this one for $50.  Has a built in viewer.....my WGI lasted 4 or 5 years now and for $35 I guess I can't complain.  I don't want expensive ones since I don't lock them and put them out on land anyone has access to.  I try to hid them as best I can but if someone wants it and they spot it, it will be gone.

Several good reviews but also some bad ones....hmmmm

Just a thought, While I personally would not leave anything in the outdoors that I would not expect to be stolen, even on posted land something occurred to me while I was looking at an trail camera ad to-day. The unit itself was in a great tree-bark camo that was very hard to  pick out,the strap stuck out like a sore thumb. The horizontal outline was the first thing that I saw in the ad because it was not camoed. You know how horizontal lines stick out in the woods. I wonder if any other makes have camouflaged straps or if any of you guys do it yourselves?  sam

I usually stick a few branches in mine hanging down to hide the strap. Just break the outline up and kind of brushes in the camera

Most of my cameras are on mounts similar to this. Straps can hold human scent much longer so I try to stay away from them.

To aid in not getting the camera detected by animals and people I mount my cameras high. 7’-10’ off the ground.

Hoping to get my daughter out for an evening sit.  Need to get tires put on the car at 1.  Her online classes are done around 2:30 or so and told her to get showered up in the no-scent...so you are ready to go when I get back.  We shall see if hunting wins out over chatting with friends.....
I think if the misty rain doesn't let up by then, the chatting with friends might win out.
At least my son's flag football game for 9pm tonight is cancelled.  The Twp. doesn't want their fields all chewed up....

Mountain, what township you hunting? Hang in there, it is oh going to get better from here on out. Next week looks awesome weatherwise, maybe spitting snow Monday.

Somerset, had a strip job go in below the property an seemed to cut off the deers normal path was the only patch of woods in a bunch of corn/soy fields. Was common to see 5-8 deer in a few hours an signs everwhere. This year just nothing no tracks, scrapes, no sign. Dozen sits with 3 all dayers an nothing besides a few turkeys.

Might be time to start scouting for a new spot if that's the case....hopefully you have some other spots to check out.

Unfortunately dont have a backup, wont bother with the SGLs. Oh well back to fishing lol

Had a big shooter 8 point at 23 yards broadside tonight and managed to not get an arrow sent his way. Ugh! He was cruising at 5:30.

Donned the ole ghille suit and parked my ash on a stump today. Saw a total of 9 different bucks and a couple of doe. Missed an avg. 7-8 pointer with the longbow that I called in. All in all it was a great day except for the rain, sleet and snow mix

Re: 2020 archery thread 2020/11/01 09:47:26 (permalink)
Im sick to my stomach. Yesterday i was just thinking about packing up early because the wife had a dentist appointment and i hear splash splash crunch crunch behind me. Turn to see a large doe at 15 yards so i stand up and watch. Tell her that it's her lucky day dont have time for her. Look back where she came and my heart stopped. 30 yards away giant 10. One of the biggest ive ever seen. Right on her tail. He was quartering towards me at 15 yards so no shot. Im at full draw and turn to my next shooting lane. He starts moving towards it. Now hes 27 yards slight quartering away im giddy with anticipation when i let the arrow fly. He attempts to duck the shot and i hit him a little higher than i thought.

He didnt mule kick just started a 20 yard rush turning away from me so i couldnt see the arrow. Then walked back the way they came. I waited 45 mins and got down and went to where i lost saw him. Bright red blood lots of it. Marked the spot and went to where i hit him. Dark hair and splatter.

First 100 yards 2 to 3 ft streaks of spots the size of silver dollars every 5 ft. Turning into quarter sized drops every foot or 2 groups of 5 or 6 drops. After another 100 yards i called in help.

We were almost a mile from where i hit him when we find the arrow. Only 10 inches of penetration. Dark hair and some muscle on it. Then the blood was only tiny droplets. Found 2 dollar bill sized piles of clotted chunky stuff. After 5 hours and 3 1/2 miles of tracking the droplets finally came to an end. Worst part he was headed to posted land that will not allow you on to track or recover anything. I still cant wrap my head around it. The shot didnt look that bad but the whole time just bright red blood no bubbles or frothy looking stuff. Ill probably never see another buck of his quality.

Sorry to hear this ...OUT ! Same thing happened to my grandson a few weeks ago , he was bummed also, I guess it was a really nice buck to , like I told him hey it happens to us all at times . I have lost at least 3 over the years I hunted . He hit his high also .. but he thinks he saw that buck on Friday evening , he said it was out if range but he glassed it and saw a spot right near the back strap that looked like it was hit. He is convinced that it is the same buck , he went back out yesterday but I didn’t hear from him .... so again sorry to hear of your Bad luck but hang in there bud ... good luck !!

Re: 2020 archery thread 2020/11/01 11:45:57 (permalink)
Sorry to hear outasync. My son and I had a similar situation yesterday that turned out for the better.

Friday evening we arrive to our parking spot to see another hunter leaving his vehicle and going to a trail which headed in the direction of the stand we were going to hunt. After we hike in we see he is set up about 60 yds from our double man setup. I have another stand set up about 500 yds away I tell my son he can setup in and I will just sit under it.

We settle in shortly before 4 and it isn't long till we have action behind us. Sounds like chasing but neither of us can make out what then the deer are gone. A little before 5 it's happening again this time close enough my son can make the doe being chased but not what is chasing it. As we both look behind the stand something is coming from about two o'clock fast to the stand as we both turn there is a large 8 pt looking up at my son in the stand at 15 yds. Shocked I freeze and don't move or look at the deer until I hear the sound of my son shooting and the loud crack of an impact. I look up to see the deer running fast away with his tail low and twitching. I then look up to my son and ask wth is he doing shooting at a buck quarter to us. His response was is angle was different than mine and that the deer was looking right at him. After a good reaming out we go look at the shot site and there is hair and blood. Knowing the deer was at least sightly angled towards my son we back out till Halloween morning.

Halloween morning bright n early we get to the shot site and start tracking. There is constant blood coming out both sides of the deer immediately. After about 15 yds we find his bolt with signs of a complete pass through and good blood on it.

We track the blood through the thickest, nastiest brush, crawling more than a couple of times for about 250 yds from the shot site when we jump a deer in front of us that didn't move the quickest. We go about another 30 yds and find where the buck bedded and the ground is saturated in good bright red blood but there is no deer in the bed. We track about another 15 yds with blood then it just stopped.

We search but find no more blood but do see hair all over a bush in the direction of the deer we jumped was going. We assume it was the deer since it was headed into a creek bottom to water. We search the next 2 hours with no sign of the buck so we head back to the spot of last blood, as we do so I can smell the distinct scent of a rutted up buck. I crawl under some brush to look for more sign as I get back into some thinner grass, I can see where the buck bedded again and look over to see the buck laying there. It had expired some time ago and wasn't the deer we jumped. The dang thing was less than 20 yds from our last blood and we just couldn't see it.

Moses congratulations to you and your son. Your determination in finding the animal paid off but better yet, your son's shooting skills brought home a beautiful buck. 🍻

We were barely parked in our new location and deer were coming from the woods, to feed 50 yards from us. No buck among the group.

I would think after the high winds and snow fall muup north, the elusive white tailed deer will be moving pretty heavy this afternoon.

Good luck to all.

Re: 2020 archery thread 2020/11/02 18:26:57 (permalink)
With the snow still laying around this afternoon I was excited to get out. As I pulled in the driveway at 3 there were 3 deer parked under an apple tree just off the driveway. Looked like the small 6 I saw last week and 2 does. Blood pumping now I got changed and snuck back into a stand about 100yds off where I thought a nice 10pt has been bedding periodically throughout the year. Wind and time were finally in my favor to hunt this stand for the second time. Got tucked in and decided I was gonna be a little aggressive today. Around 4 I did some calling with the can and grunt call. Couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the buck I was after stand up right where I hoped he would be! Sat there for a short minute watching him rub on some brushy trees and thinking no **** this is actually gonna work, when all of a sudden a doe came ripping in under the stand from behind me like her tail was on fire. I'm telling you she couldnt have ran a straighter line to that buck through the thick brush, and in seconds my hopes were dashed as he decided he was gonna follow her out away from me. Sat there waiting to see what had her so up in arms to begin with, but nothing showed. No deer for me to take home tonight, but it was exciting for a short while.

Another all day sit 18 feet up in a steady gale. Brrrrr... For my efforts I saw 5 bucks between 9 and 11. One was a shooter. Problem was all of them were on a trail that went right past another one of my stands. I watched them all walk within 25 yards of it. After 11, nothing the rest of the day. I guess I will sit that other stand tomorrow morning....

👍 Great story CS. Got my heart pumping. Still plenty of time.

Saw on local news Seneca/Franklin/Oil City area received 6.5 inches of snow. Unfortunate,
for the deer hunter sunshine will make short order of that by mid week. Glad I got out of Dodge when I did Sunday.

Good luck everyone.

Sat back in the Truck watching a NO field this PM in Ct and watched a HUGE antlered buck working a half dozen doe- whenever he got close they would run off and --repeat---repeat
Was nice to watch- not full rut chasing but leading up to it.
