What has happened to this site?

Gentlemen.
This site used to be full of people posting good information about creek conditions, lure selection, gear selection, and general Discussions.  What happened?

The tribs had much more access years ago that allowed people to spread out and make steelie fishing much more enjoyable.  With less space, people are more tight lipped about giving up a spot or technique to add to the already overcrowded conditions.  Social media took off as well.  That said, I know other sites that I visit for fisheries that don't have the access/overcrowding issues, that are still running strong with reports and discussions, that have the same social media competition.

the popularity, ease of use, and instant feedback of facebook and instagram happened.  it's the "native language" for a lot of the younger generation - 20's & 30's - of outdoorsmen.  many of 'em would never even think about coming to a site like this because they find everything they need on social media.

couple of steelhead related facebook pages out there that i follow that are busier and have more discussion and conversation than i've ever seen on this forum, even at its peak 10-15 years ago.  and on those pages, most of the users are far from tight lipped.  every day there are posts from newbies looking to get into the game, and dozens of users willing to tell 'em when, how, and where within minutes.  lots of instant gratification going on there.

🤫.... it's all my fault. #11968 🤭

I don't doubt other social media access gets more attention/contribution for getting/giving info when it comes to fishing/hunting. Many of those sights make it easy to see/post pics & vids too.

Yinz might be surprised to learn, these boards are visted by a couple thousand ”non-members” at any given time..... but alas, 😒 they see my post.🤗

Part of the slide was when some asked for advise, they got bludgeoned over the head with “go look yourself,” “all you want is spoon fed,” or some other wise crack. Back at the beginning, all questions, no matter how simple, were typically answered with at least semi-sound advice.

Both sides of this debate have good points. There was a time a few years ago that you couldn't post on here without people bashing you, it seemed like any time I went up and posted a report, I would have some schmuck PMing me ranting about how I just "spot burned" and "put 30 guys on that spot," and any time a photo was posted, there would be always be bashing of something, whether it was kept, what it was caught on, the appearance of the person, even if they were using budget equipment instead of Simms/ Loomis/ Sage etc. I legitimately remember a thread from about 10 years ago where a young fellow posted at the end of August a few photos of some early steelhead he caught on the wall, and the first response was some shade of "why would you ever post that here, now there's gonna be 100 guys driving up tomorrow." The mods did a good job of cleaning that up.

But there are those who take it too far, and ask questions that have been answered a million times, or seem to truly want to be "spoon fed" and not do any work at all. I personally like to help people, and give them some info to start with, but I don't like when they continue to push the issue, or ask questions that I have already answered.

Perhaps Captain Hook, you could rebuild interest by posting your adventures and great pictures.... on the ”Fishing/Hunting Boards” and just ignore the political chat on the ”Off Topic Boards”.

You complain of the topics and who post too much (🤔) which signifies your misunderstanding of the rules.

First, you can create your own Forum say like, THE JOURNALS OF CAPTAIN HOOK and become your 'own mod' so when somebody is out of line, you report your complaint to Admin. It works.

I might also add, the ”off topic” politics have been running for over 4 years now and has become a 'daily' conversation among a group of people who visit the sight(s) because we want to ”discuss politics” (or have some fun busting balz). You on the other hand do not which is understandable. Therefore you merely need select which boards you enjoy and leave the others out.

As for who 'you' dislike or may be jealous of (anybody I know🤔) you merely ”block” those subscribers.... It works. Also, the folks you dislike because we don't bend your way, block us out too.... it works.

IMHO the problem, the whiners can no longer dominate the boards.... so they're leaving.

Just an observation. #11986

Thats the main problem with this board now. The politic nonsense has over run every board. Every topic. The name calling and basic harassment is found on every topic. It makes the reading far less enjoyable.

Nothing new Dave, except now there is a group of people standing their ground and defending their opinion.

Boards get hyjacked all the time with conversations veering from the subject and folks ”have” had their post pulled and received 'nastygrams' explaining the reason. Subscribers ”have” and ”are” banned from these boards when they failed to follow the rules and received fair warning.

Again neighbor, the opportunity exist on this sight to create and control your own forum and the opportunity exist which forums you favor, allowing you to ignore anything you wish not to view.

To complain about the topics of politics, how many post a person makes (that's goodin), accusing someone of chasing people away etc??? C'mon man.... that's a sure sign the whiners are simply jealous of others......

In other news......

I been hoping to see some fishing reports from you. You been able to get away from work, having any luck with getting on the water?

Any examples of political nonsense running over to every board? I looked for a short time, but don't really see it. Off topic board yes, but I don't really see it elsewhere. Name calling, and politics in every topic, as you claim, does not appear to be true.

Pymie is already down to its winter level so i havnt made any trips up there recently. Been spending my free time swinging in my tree. Been seeing several small bucks and smaller 1 to 2 year old doe but nothing to stick yet. Did make out fall trip to gettysburg a few weeks ago a few days after the latest idiot speech there (both of them are idiots in my opinion and would still havnt decided which deserves the highest honor our countries citizens can bestow) and ill tell ya the sights were amazing.
