Just wondering without looking up details how much rain have we had this year or summer ? Did we break any monthly records ? I personally can't remember ever seeing our local lakes and rivers this high for so long ! It seems like Pymy gets little effect from heavy rains while Shenango floods the banks even though Shenango has seven gates open to unload water.  Apparently much more water feeds into Shenango faster with the river and creek flows.

Shenango don't matter to me, Captain. I've been on Shenango 3 times in the past two years and have yet to hook a fish, 'cept for a big one eyed channel cat. I figure there gotta be a few toothy critters in there somewhere, but they so far have eluded me. Maybe this fall?

I saw something in June that the Pittsburgh area was on pace for the highest total precipitation for a year at that point.  Dunno where we're at now though.  I was actually just thinking about a few places that I fish that are really low and need some rain.  Then I punched myself in the ear for actually wishing it would rain after all the messes it created earlier this summer.

Usually by this time in the summer, my grass needs to be cut about once every two weeks.  Still cutting about every 5-7 days though.  Have one spot in my yard that has a spring underground - about 500 sq. feet - that's always swampy in the spring and can't cut till about the end of May or early June.  Finally just was able to get my lawn tractor in there for the first time last week without sinking it.

Shenango has good Striper action white, smallmouth ,and largemouth Bass. Crappie are scattered all over the lake too . Musky are far and in-between but Pike seem to be around . Of course catfish are around steady but carp seem to be not as popular as are walleye. This year was a bust for me water stayed muddy and high then the heat rolled in....others faired well that went steady .

To me it's an early morning, late evening fishery because once the pleasure boats and jet skis show up it's over. I prefer first light till about 9am and I mainly chase only Stripers.  Work the shorelines ,trestles and the old river channel ....don't feel bad it's easy to get skunked on that lake. Some of those guys posting pics on Shenango fish almost daily ....all spring and summer they pound it ! ....and they get the skunk many a day too ! ....lol

Last year, in my area, we got between 2.5X and 3X the normal amount of rain.

This year, we are on track for the average amount, albeit in a different manner. Instead of raining here and there in steady amounts, it is no rain, then a deluge.

With the water table still full from last year, the creeks are higher than normal summer pool and the deluge rains result in flash flooding due to no where in the water table for it to easily go.

The poster formally known as Duncsdad

Everything I say can be fully substantiated by my own opinion.

On a brighter note, after the Sunday monsoon yesterday, my neighbor in Espyville reported that my french drain that I worked on for two weekends was working as it should. I had already left for home and didn't get to enjoy it.

Ain't it great when a plan comes together Roy? Lot of work and not cheap either installing french drains.

TWP says road and ditch work scheduled for area roads soon to start. Hopefully the ditch work will let me install some drainage around my place. I got one of them spots that gets really really squishy when it rains. Plus I'd like to divert the down spouts to the ditch instead of my driveway. High on my bucket list for next spring.

Nice to hear your project is working.

Good times and tight lines.

French drains seems to be what we're doin' this summer. Took a weeks vacation week before last and started out to put in one new gutter drain and a field drain, but then..... She who must be obeyed got involved, (somethin' about a little water comin' throught the basement wall), and $3200 dollars later, I've got a new French drain along the back wall and side wall of the house, with piping runnin' clear down through the yard. Also got the new gutter drains in and provision to put another downspout in the middle of the back wall, as it's about 60' long and had to run to the ends of the house to exit. Now most of the yard is clay mud. 50 lbs. of grass seed, ($150), and 7 bales of straw at $7.00 ea. Had to cover the clay for when it pours 'cause we have two Great Danes, and we can't live with them comin' in the house 3 or 4 times a day with those big muddy feet. Went to rinse out my coffee cup at the kitchen sink before leavin' for work this morning, and out in my yard were 3 full grown hen turkeys and I counted 13 poults, just munchin' my grass seed as fast as they could. I thought about sicin' Mariah on them, but knowin' her she'd catch one of them, so I went out to shoo them away. They were in no hurry to leave at all.

Just returned from Kinsman where it was raining cats & dogs.

Filled the Mopar with gasoline (2.469 per gal) at the Marathon then stopped at the Dairy Oasis where we enjoyed burgers, fries & chili dog. Spent a few bucks at the Dollar General and Ace too.

Definitely worth the trip all the way around.

Except for the stupid rain. 😡
