Clam jam 2019

We are here in Rhode island.
Set up camp for 7 days.
Just me , wife and Lukas our dog.
His first adventure so it ought to be fun.
Hitting the clamming at some point in am tomorrow.
Feels good to just have a relaxing vacation.

Enjoy your time HT and keep the stories coming. Nothing like a get away in a RV.

I hope that you have a great time,I was wondering if you ever slow down. I would bet that you are putting in a little garden while you are there. lol Seriously, although I am now pretty much crippled with my back, Your work ethic made me feel like a loafer even when I was able-bodied. We are waiting to hear from you.  sam

Thanks folks. I was up at 5:30 raring to go and dig some clams but the wife thinks vacation is for sleeping in. She's still in bed while me and the dog pace the floor, lol.
Daughter and grandson are in charge of the animals while I'm away and I'm nervous.
Normally I get 300 lbs of feed a week for them but I did 500 lbs because I know they tend to over feed.
Chickens should be good and plump when I get back on Saturday and all 38 left will hit the freezer on Sunday.

Gotta go try and get the wife moving, lots to do.
Let y'all know how things go later

Well we decided to wait on outgoing tide in afternoon. Which never really happened.
Wind was a steady 20 mph making Whitecaps in the bay.
Made the best of things in last hr about 7 PM and grabbed 35 or so clams.
Got things figured out on how to proceed, get up early and leave wife and dog at camp, lol.
    Had a blast

Left campsite at 7:30 am. Got set up by 8.
    Low tide, zero wind.
In a dig , rest periods of 15 minutes at a time, got my fill of 100 clams by 10 am. Tossed back as many chowders.
We are getting there for the big shindigs on Sunday and July 6th throwdown at the compound.
    Life is good.

Can't say he's my best friend as he's chewed everything imaginable in my house including the wife's bra, lol. But he has been doing good in the yard and this adventure. Seems smart.

I bet he'll make the "best friend" before too long.I REALLY MISS my best friend,it's been two years and I think of her everyday. If moving to Ohio was 'nt in my plans I would be looking for a "best friend" right now,but I'll wait till I get there to see if it would be a good thing to do.

Today was a washout. We seen this coming. Pretty steady to heavy rain all day. Some campsites look like lakes and if I were in them in a tent, you'd be floating.
The rest of week looks fantastic so what's 1 out of 7 , no big deal.
Something I always tell myself but never do is to wear a knee brace on my knees.
A lot of times I'm digging with a rake on my knees. Don't know what it is but I always get these nasty infections. Could be from the sand grinding or parasites in the water but I can say, it's nasty ,painful and sometimes spreads.
Oh well, gonna have to suck it up.

Just be careful and keep an eye on it, especially if you are immuno compromised in anyway. (diabetes, liver disease, etc.)

Not very prevalent there but they do have it.
    http://www.health.ri.gov/data/diseases/Vibriosis.pdf

It was really prevalent in TX when I was there, several older gentelmen who had health issues lost limbs due to the flesh eating version of it. Most instances began with a simple fin stick from a fish when handling their catch.

Thanks for the head's up. In the first 2 years here I thought it was poison oak due to location on legs and brush height around campgrounds.
Last year I was pretty confident it's from kneeling in sand ( it's not mucky) and aggressively using my knees and feet, like crab walking.
I keep saying I will put elastic knee braces on but always forget and after the fact .
    Kneeling helps on the back.
Today I did not kneel and things worked out well.

Its get'r done time. We usually have 3 diggers including me. This trip my wife is unable due to shoulder surgery and my dog just ain't fetching them so it's me to get'r done.
Beautiful day, hit area at 10am with wife and dog, done by noon.
The pile is building. Approx, 300 on ice now.
Tomorrow is an all out assault from 9am till 1pm. Got tide and clams dialed in now.

Thanks Jack. I've released almost as many chowder clams. Kept about 2 or so dozen to make Manhattan chowder when I get home.
We will have a shindig bbq at the house the next 2 weekends with family for sure. Everything else goes into storage for the future. Its nice not buying groceries right now.
Last night's meal was homemade pizza. All sauce, herbs and sausage from our home.
Lunch today was egg salad, eggs from home.
Tonight was Angus t bone from a family , fresh clams and garden salad.
Haven't eaten store bought food since last Friday.

New spot didn't pay off like I hoped. Tough going but managed a good 75 to add to the pot. My back and arms are needing some self medicating. Not doing terrible at over 400 in 4 days digging but if I had help , we'd be money..
1 good day left tomorrow then picking up stakes for home on Saturday.
I do miss the garden and farm.
Lots to do when I get home.

The picture shows when the fog rolled in.

So today was solo. Beautiful weather 6 out of 7 days so far. I maximized my time afield.
    Another limit of little necks.
DEM checked me on way in. Always friendly and welcome to see.
Total body count, 500 plus minus in 5 days.
Gonna be a hootenanny at house on Sunday.
Heading to crab boats in a few yo load up on lobster, crab and fluke filets.
They are not store bought at their prices but fresh and hand caught.
Lots love here. Couldn't do it full time but a nice place to visit and reap the things offered

We stay at Burlingame campgrounds. Charlestown RI.
It's always been a bargain at $20.00 a night , we were pre paid at 140 for 7 days. Sadly they raised rates to $36.00 but still kicks any ny private campgrounds rates. We dig it here Saturday's. Weekday is quiet, weekends packed.
Plenty free stuff to do. Our kind neighbor gave us some of his daily sea bass filets.
On our Last night, we went back to fishing docks in galilee to buy fresh catch.
$50.00 got us 5 lobsters and 13 crabs.
Given the 500 clams we caught with a $15.00 license, win , win for a vacation.
