Does anyone know if the lake will be fishable by spring?

Lake will probably closed until spring of 2020 if the PFBC follows the schedule they used last time they drained it.  The other factor will be how long it takes the lake to fill back up.  If I get a chance this week I'll check to see if it has started filling

Just took a ride past the lake. No sign of activity on the Meadville end and although the dam looks completed  it looks like a lot of grading work needs to be finished. Crews were moving a lot of materials around and it looked like the gate system was completed on the Cochranton end but the temporary dam is still in.   So I'd say it will be spring time before they shut the gates and start filling the lake up.

Thanks Mike. I tried getting over there today, to Tamarack, but got waylaid at a real estate office in Meadville.

Will be exciting to watch the lake refill.

Channel 24 Erie news just reported today at noon that Tamarack Lake will be started to re-fill sometime in Mid-April and is expected to take 6 months to do that. With the rain we  have had, I would expect it to fill sooner if it stays as wet as it has been. Good news for a change. They say the dams should last for the next 50 years...Let us hope so...

Ohhhhhhh surrrre........ I leave town for a few months and they decide to refill the lake. See how they are!!!!

On a lighter note, I'll be very happy to see how the dams look, in fifty years. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Thanks for posting the info Olds.

Kudos to the "Friends of Tamarack" in getting the lake refilled. ๐Ÿป

Ha haa..... I hear you but dont let that old age thingy bother ya. They say you are only as old as you feel.

I say "BS" cause if that were the case, I'd be 125 already. lmao

I took a ride past Tamarack Lake yesterday. The south end (Pettets)  has a large pool in front of the dam about 50 yards long. There is also a channel going up the lake as far as I could see from the road.
If the lake is to be full by the end of this year...better get'er done.

I was told when the lake was first built that the runoff from the surrounding hills and springs was equal to a 6 inch pipe running full flow year around.  Well, there's 285 days left this year and a lot of dry lake bed to fill.

Can yinz imagine the excitement that must be running through the minds of "Friends of Tamarack" each day, as the water becomes deeper and deeper.

Pachuckles it was certainly nice of you to post an update. For sure it will take quite sometime as the filling will be very controlled, allowing for the engineers to observe the new dams.

Congratulations to "The Friends of Tamarack".

Thanks for the link Mike, interesting read.

I did giggle when it was mentioned, weeds so thick you can walk across them. Reminded me of the good ole days at Tamarack before the first draining.

Good times (again at Tamarack) and tight lines. ๐Ÿป

zap em all.

i recently found out that when the state nets invasive fish in their survey nets they get re-released.
carp, chain pickerel (in wrong drainages) because it'd be too hard to take them all out...

well, wouldn't reducing their print make sense?  I'd imagine if you let a local Amish community they can come pick up tons of carp for fertilizer they'd help the heap of stink.

i also very much appreciate that they're attempting to remove these carp before refilling.

happy friday.

I've read that bowfin are the biggest predator of carp.  Some may not like the idea of putting another toothy predator into our lakes, but it seems like they do help control the carp populations in the waters that they currently reside.  I haven't noticed an over abundance of carp in Conneaut Lake.

for the amount of fish left in a 1 acre pool  cant be that many , to insure complete eradication of carp , kill everything in the pool, to ensure a better restocking

Thought some of the Tamarack fans might be interested, hope the link works.

Being a flood control project, hopefully all the recent rains will help Tamarack reach her full pool of 13 feet sooner then expected and quicken her restocking of fishes.

Drove past the lake today to see how the water level is progressing. It is going slow, both ends have pools and you could see some water through the center sections, mainly in the creek channel. Hard to tell exactly how much water is in there due to the vegetation.
While looking at the south dam a Linesville hatchery guy pulled in to stock golden shiners for a forage base. He said they put in a bunch of bass fingerlings in the week before. I didn't take any pictures but at least progress is being made.
