2018-2019 Ice fishing
It's time.
I passed frozen waters on the western mountain and know of folks walking water on Friday in the Adks.
In another week, I'll get serious. Right now it's a dream of sorts and sorting gear.
Funny. My grandkids all want ice fishing gear for Christmas. 😀

Warmer temps coming over weekend will enable me to drive home without "snow showers".Right now all streams are blown out in Ohio and PA. Your ice is on the way.....  that's a ice dance just for you Rich. I have some bad news for the "ICE" watchers...above warmer temps are forecasted for middle DEc,might delay the ice season a bit!

Temps are going to take the downward curve this week in the mountains of N.Y..
Single and below digits, that means harder water on water that was hard a week ago.
My first ice walk was Dec 7th. On 6 ". Years ago and in between
People have been walking already, my projected plan is Dec 22nd for pike and such. Dec 29th to target deep water trout.
Pretty much a given by new years there is lots of options.
Give me a week and I'll be posting ice pictures 😀

Ice gear is coming out. Looking at hitting a local high elevation lake next Sunday. It won't be long for deep water Lakers but I want to shake down my gear on pannies and pike the next 2 weeks. Goal is New Year weekend on trout.

6" locally within an hr of house. Feels good again. Some perch and a lost rainbow trout.

Fantastic first day out. Great to stretch my legs and clean fish instead of large meats. A first but not last time on a lake only an hr from house. State campgrounds and launch on opposite side. All cool thanks to NYS recreation opportunities. Caught 2 brown trout, a rainbow was lost at hole. Trout released. 1 big pickerle A bunch of perch, kept 6 for fish , football and chips tomorrow. Tip ups with a fathead were the hot bite, jigging was tough. Pretty sure I could pillage if I wanted but a nice shakedown trip. Looks like deep water Lakers is on tap next weekend. Stay safe, on top and enjoy the 2018 -19 Hard water season, may it be long and our hands smell like fish oh baby.

Warm and wet weather putting the kibosh, to what little ice there was, in my little piece of Penn's Woods. Don't look promising for the hard water guys anytime soon.... neither. 😢

About 20 pike iced and probably 40 flags today on 12 inch ice. Kept my 5 fish limit.
The big laker water looked sketchy with heavy water flowing onto.
Was 48 degrees at 7am. 27 at 3pm.
And so it begins.

This deepwater lake is 9 miles long. 2/3rd is frozen, especially the deepest northern end at about 150fow. I prefer the southern section of 60-45 fow but it's open water right now. We fished in the middle section of lake.

Day 2, little slow, far more people and some shorts caught. Didn't bother bringing tip ups. Grandson did well on the short rod all by himself

I wish, lol. Only 5.75 years to go. I've just had a lot of vacation time and the holidays off. Deer season ran right into ice, nice. Locked and loaded with the gear for another 2 days in the mountains. I'll be on or in water every weekend until late March.

Not looking good for ice-fishing in NJ this year. Unless we get an artic blast and extended cold spell in next few weeks may not get out on Tilcon Lake.
Bummed out because the state has done a nice job stocking Landlocked Salmon. Any plans for an Adirondack weekend ice outing?

Looked like salmon season on the lake today. Must have been 400 tip up within sight and I didn't put out any today. Fish were shell shocked.
We caught nothing nor marked much. Every fish went to the open water 1/4 mile south.
Not doing that zoo tomorrow. Hitting some non trout water in am

Should be ice here by this weekend that is fishable. I will wait a week after to be sure. I don't take chances with early ice.

Geesh, we are losing ice locally. Small ponds are open and bigger ones had white caps today. Rain sure didn't help.
No fear, its almost the weekend.
I'm only doing a 1 day adventure this weekend. Got snake bit by the crowds last weekend on Laker waters so I'm sticking with good eating panfish.
Week 6 will commence.

Not getting political but I am personalizing my gear. Mainly for identification purposes. 5 of us in our group own the same equipment. It's really a simple thing to waste some time. I've missed a few items in the not so past.

I find it crazy that we are a group of 4 on a big lake with nobody else around. Snowmobiles find they must stay by us to traverse the lake.
Once 1 cuts a trail the other clueless follow.
