Yeah showoff, nice deer. lmao

Congratulations Dave, well deserved and a nice deer too boot. 👍👍👍

I should of had my deer today too. Nice buck also but, I was slow to draw.

Yeah I know, Sunday deer hunting isn't legal in PA (sorry Gene) but I don't think there is a season, when harvesting the elusive PA White Tailed Deer, when using the front bumper of a 3/4 ton pick-em up truck.

Man-O-Man, there he come, from afield dead in front of me, stopping on the road. But alas, my old age has affected my reaction a bit and I didn't hit the gas quick enough before, with a single bound, he leaped into the afforest.

Don't know if tomorrow I'll go forth with bow, in search of the elusive PA White Tailed Deer but even if I don't, it's been a good year making memories with yinz once again.

So let me just say, if by end of the day, I've not killed... Ummmn, harvested a last hour buck. I've enjoyed the stories and the good reads all yinz all and I'm already looking forward to next year.

Good luck to all.

I hung in there till the bitter end. Hunted mostly all day from the 2nd till sunset tonight on several different properties. Don't have much to show for my efforts. Passed one mediocre 8 point up this past Saturday at 15 yards. Did not see many deer or rutting action. This was my slowest November ever in the archery stand.

I might have a sit or two left in the SRA before firearms comes in, though.

Passed up 5 different legal bucks since the opener so I can't complain. That is better than what the majority of archery hunters experience.

I also didn't score but had a great season. Today hunt was very exciting. I saw 9 total deer, all under 30 yards. 6 deer could have easily been taken, unfortunately the decent 8pts was one I could not shoot. lol  But the spike and 4 pts where chip shots. The 4 bigger legal bucks that I saw just seemed to have that 6 sense,as they seem to always have. I'll be gun hunting the same woods for two weeks or until one on them take a dirt nap. I'm going to concentrate on Ohio for a couple weeks now. As to rutting activity,I only saw 2 does getting chased this week. The first one had 2 very respectable 8 pts in hot pursuit, today a decent 8pts and a spike where in pursuit. Good gun hunting to all. Very little rut,to me.

Re: Archery season 2018 2018/11/12 19:59:51 (permalink)
Wasn't gonna go back out, but I decided to take half a day and sit for a long afternoon today. Walking back the gas line to my stand just before noon I turned a corner and saw a doe walking toward me. Stopped in my tracks as she crept toward me up to 30yds, then she slipped into the undergrowth.

Snuck into the stand and it was uneventful until 130 when I had 3 small doe come in behind me and then bed down 40yds south of me. Around 2 I felt the call of nature, but with these doe bedded down I held on. At 4 I decided I couldn't take it anymore so I threw a few grunts out trying to get these doe on their feet and gone so I could relieve myself. This managed to wake them up for a minute or 2 so they could get up, stretch, relieve themselves, then lay back down. 5 minutes later 2 large doe worked their way in from the SW to 30yds, only to have the wind swirl toward them. Many snorts later they bounded off and in the process they woke the others that were bedded down and they eased their way off.

Finally thought I could relieve myself, but in short order a small 6 with three up and no brows came in hard from the brush to my N. Even if I wanted to arrow this buck as soon as he was in range in the open he slowed his pace and knew something was off. Watched me in the stand but never spooked as he went through, then slipped out of sight. Few minutes later another one came through, but it was a small half rack Y buck that had a bad back leg. Felt kinda bad for him as he limped his way through.

Ended my season at 515 when I finally decided it was time to get down. Been a while since I was that happy to hit the ground and give my bladder some relief. This was definitely my most eventful sit of the season. Hope you all had a good day out.

By the way crappiefisher that's a beast. Congrats!

Re: Archery season 2018 2018/11/13 08:20:25 (permalink)
It was a weird rut this year for sure. Many reported results similar to mine. Very slow with sporadic rutting behavior. Some folks, and it appears to be the minority, saw typical November action. The past two weeks were my fewest deer sighting since we were allowed to archery hunt this time of the year. Even my cameras were slow at night.

I do know that in the areas I was hunting, we got hit by EHD last year, which often take older male deer. There just isn't the typical number of older bucks like a normal year. Everything I saw was young.

Antler restrictions. Or perhaps Gary Alt's plan is working. "move the predator to the prey".

EHD??? Really Gene??

EHD...yeah....BTDT.  My one area got hit really hard by it last year.  It did rebound some this year and that is the area I did shoot my buck this year but, the numbers are definitely down.

Didn't see much if any rutting action here in 2B but, I wasn't really out much.  Got blanked on saturday afternoon with the boy, sitting in the ground blind.  I may take the bow out a few sits this week since I have a doe tag and a yote is still a possibility.  Can still try and get a quick sit in with my daughter but, it will be a rush when she gets off the bus.

My cousin who hunts in Warren Co. had a ton of "rut" action since late last week but, that is behind for up there by a week or so...just seems like everything is pushed back this year...leaf fall and all.

Yup not much chasing here but did see an average anount of bucks walking around sniffing morning and evening but mostly small.
At 245 pm yesterday I had a nice lil 8pt come by real close and posed in 3 of my shooting lanes but I passed on him trying to wait for bigger even though I know its unlikely.Neighbor and I have talked about passing on 2.5 yr olds this year in the past we both have taken them see how that goes in the future.I had a chance at 2 out of the 5 legal bucks I had on cam so I guese that's not bad I enjoyed the madness...BACK TO WORK!!!   WCW

C_S, that photo was sent to me from a friend. Supposedly harvested by a Amish man. I haven't hunted since 2011. In my eyes the deer needed a break where I live. So I had a good time glassing them since then. Seems last yr. & this they have made a very good comeback in my neck ov the woods. Will pick the sport back up next yr.

We did spotlight over 90 the other night not far from where you live in 1/2 hr. or so.

Enjoyed the reports & glad yinz all had a good time.

Weird rut year for me too.  Saw deer running in the brush yesterday but do not know if it was a buck chasing or if a hunter chased it.  Only saw 3 bucks all season with one maybe legal.   Other than that it was a very slow year for me.   Hopefully, rifle season I will fare better.

Re: Archery season 2018 2018/11/13 17:32:23 (permalink)
I watched a buck at last light, yesterday afternoon. Big bodied deer with three up and his nose was on the ground till he picked his head up, and looked straight at me. Stupid deer.

But anyway, other than his nose was down and he was wasting no time in his stride, I saw nothing a guy would expect to see, indicating this deer was in full swing.

I was on a trail between the corn field he was sniffing and the area where deer bed down so he continued on past before cutting into the thicket to circle me.... the pryk.

While the field remained lit from the suns dying rays, it was much to dark back in the cover of now bare trees, to even hope he might step into a lane giving me a shot.

Well that was then and this now so all I have to say, on these boards I wonder why hasn't Gun Season 2018 started, as of yet? Yinz guys is hiding from me, I'm willing to bet. 😏

Should have had the kids out more often, I suppose.
Pulled a cam that I put up behind my ladder stand I set a couple weeks ago.  Some decent bucks cruising through and would have been good shots for the kids.  Lets see if I can get these youtube videos to embed.  Never tried them before...

Re: Archery season 2018 2018/11/15 00:58:19 (permalink)
Watched 5 antlerless PA. elusive White Tailed Deer meandering in the harvested corn field to my south.   I enjoyed the view as they calmly browsed, first along woods edge then, making their way farther out into the field.   Every once in a while, one would pick it's head up for a quick look around but always returning in short time, noses back to the ground.  But never did I see, an antler of any kind, on the head of a deer, know 100 feet from me.

Later in the day, I gave a neighbor a helping hand reattaching his wood tree stand, then relocating one of his ladder stands.  Only saw one rub and no scrape as I walked along a well traveled trail.  Spoke with a farmer planting winter wheat, hearing he's been seeing legal racks a good bit of time he's out and about, tending his fields.

He too expressed his surprise, he's seeing the deer but little to no rubs or signs of rut otherwise.

Ummm, which board did yinz say, I'll find the "Gun Season 2018" forum on?
