Sam I'm seeing small (8 to 10 birds) flocks since they knocked some corn down. But when it comes to huntin turkey, well they're just so darned cute.

Yotes are around as all it takes is some sort of emergency vehicle using it's siren and it's 'yote yodeling' at it's finest.

Heck, I'm not even sure if the coyote competitions are as popular as they once were.

I have wondered is the use of dogs for fall turkey legal in all of PA and hows that working out. Anybody doing that?

My daughter missed a gobbler tonight from our ground blind with the crossbow.  Deer was our target but none of those seen.  With the gobbler and a dozen hens around for half an hour, my daughter got to experience Turkey fever first hand.....feel bad she missed as she was upset but, I told her that's what make s hunting with the bow/crossbow so frustrating but so much fun.

Dogs track turkeys and bust up the flock, then you go to tha area sit down and do some calling, mostly hen yelping and kee kee. Long series of yelping is momma hen calling jennies and Jake back, Kee Kee's are juvenile birds calling back. Their vocals are not developed to yelp yet. Never did the dog thing, but I played dog many times in my mountain turkey hunting days.I rush them or even shoot in the air and scatter them. In a bout a half hour the woods light up with turkey talk. It's a fun hunt and your pretty much guaranteed a bird if you can call and remain motionless.

Too bad eyes but I'll bet those turkeys will be back,if it's any consolation. Tell her that a veteran 66 year old man missed a turkey at 15 yards last week.lol  Stuff happens, she get a chance again. Good luck to her.
