PA.  I was in the middle river stretch last Wed. I stop to watch from the top of the Trestle N.    There were kings rolling around.  It didn't seem packed but there have to be some up there. I've seen credible reports that the school house held quite a few this week.
When is it you're going up there?

There are some up there, but it's not loaded by any means. I heard from a friend he saw a few hooked in the hour he was there

I fished mid river today and it was a blood bath to say the least. There were several places that had hundreds of fish. BUTTTTTTTTT where there are fish there are people and you just need to take a few breaths and do what you need to do.  I had several good hooks, one to the bank and more fouls than I cn remémber

Clint, there are tons of fish in the river but they are not in thr Fly Zones in large numbers yet,I chose to fish there 'cause I don't want to see the blood bath.Today I'm sitting here watching the cold, windy, rain.I guess I'm getting too old for this!

I fished  3 1/2 hrs. off the wall. Saw Jack at the end of my stint. 0/3 - might have landed one , but the hook shank broke under an old bunny wrapping.  Kinda sparse upriver. Need to be very exacting about your drift, as if it's a resident steelhead.  I didn't sight fish, it was raining 75% of the time.  I'm very grateful I got to go at all. I'll head back in a few weeks.  Hope lots  more run  up in the rain for you ,Jack.  Seeya in Oct.   Hope Wayne and Jimmy get into them, too.  I didn't go further upriver, but they  might be holed behind the tree. It would have been empty-you were right, Wayne.

Went back to the LFZ after noon when the rain and wind ended.Fished off the wall up by the end. After several fly changes I put on a light blue glo bug, after a couple casts I had a very hard hit and off it went down river and into my backing, tried to palm the reel with no success and then the leader snapped at the hook.Thought I found "the" fly,but that was it,no more hits, except a bump that resulted in a foul hook.Tomorrow is another day!

Glad you got out Charlie and Trevor, Fishing is healing in our soul, I miss it right now.
    Catching is the bonus.
I did a drift with John in November and we caught 1 zombie coho. Watched it porpoise a while then our rod fired. Crazy how the fish will hit a lure if you let them. No other players but a fantastic day.

Fishing should be fishing. I'll pass on the rest.

Pafisher, have you taken a walk up in the hatchery?  Are there a lot of fish in the ladder, and around the end of it in Beaverdam Brook?  Maybe next to nothing is making it through "the gauntlet" downstream, and we'll be looking at egg collection problems again.  A LOT of salmon went into boxes on the lake, and with all the  "limits for 4 ( plus the captain's) and another 40 released" reports, there had to be at least some mortality, this has had me wondering since summer what the effect on the run might be. You could be enjoying the only week of angling on LFZ all fall, if numbers don't come up (not that LFZ is where the problem is, but it is the EZ solution) and past practice comes into play again.  It's all about the egg take, and the amount of successful spawning in the river, now.  Good year to avoid walking through redds, for sure!

Lucky,I did not visit the hatchery but from what some people told me there are plenty there. Also, there are plenty of fish thru out the river but they are not hitting well,it could be the water is too warm. The lifters/snaggers are catching a bunch.

Temperatures around here dropped a good deal overnight, but in terms of the Genesee the water went way up and muddy as well.  Maybe the fish that aren't getting so heavily pounded in the zone will turn on for you.  Or a chrome or two will show up.

I'm glad in a way for me I had a short window of time.  My Mom passed peacefully. I'll  take some time to fish after things  are sorted and all arrangements conclude.  For the first time in a long time I had the salmon bug and it hasn't really gone away despite my sadness.  I'll go back in Oct. and  hope to see some steel whacking  on the swing  in the next few months.  Thanks for the diversions, guys. I enjoy reading about the river (and small scale farming) , as it's all good with me.  Good to hear about the hatchery , I was afraid Lucky's  mention of  closing the LFZ would come to pass. I like having some room upriver.  Sorry about the lack of aggressive fish, Jack- you'll make up for it soon. Hope I'm there to see it.

R3 there is something spiritual about fishing.

My condolences.... The next couple of weeks will seem overwhelming at times but I hope you get some time on the water to have a chance to reflect and recharge. As already said, time on the water can be spiritual... and healing...

Prayers for you and your family, Fichy.

I heard from a NYSDEC representative last night that while the ladder and brook are full, it is >90% cohoes.  Asked about egg take for Kings, he commented, "we still have a long way to go."  I am not seeing it on the Press Release Page of the NYSDEC Website, yet, but it is my understanding that an announcement was made yesterday afternoon that King stocking for 2019, which is this fall's egg take, will be reduced an additional 20%, due to concern about the 2017 alewife hatch measured in the 2018 trawl surveys, and the amount of depletion of the record 2016 hatch between the 2017 trawls and the 2018 trawls, which is viewed as symptomatic of over predation in the Lake, and further data on size structure of adult kings indicative of lower than expected growth rates.  Public meetings are coming up in the next two weeks in Lockport on 10/4, Rochester (Greece), on October 9, and Pulaski on October 10.

When I looked at the fish in the race there was a large number of fish that looked like 30# + in size ,if those were Coho they would be records for NY for sure, but they looked like Kings to me.I'm home now so I can't confirm what they said.

heading to Pulaski in the morning.  Should reach fat nancy's by 3:30.  May swing up to LFZ to take a look around.  I'll be in the DSR the entire trip.  Will be trying out a new go pro.  Hopefully I can film some items worthy of YouTube.
