Nothing, just what my hands pretty much look like every day. Dirt farmer.
Now today , my head hurts.

Happy father's day

More to being a "gentleman-farmer" then meets the eye.😩 But come time to enjoy the harvest, makes it all worthwhile.😁

Some may call it stupid but I still think it's fun stuff.
Walking through the thorns to gather firewood or kneeling in the sand digging clams.
It's all a part of love and war

By golly Tuna, that looks like more fun than playing in a field of chiggers.

On a canoe trip one summer, we stopped on an island to camp overnight. The down stream end was sandy with trees. The upper end was heavy with drift wood. In between, high grass.

Good GRIEF, we paid for the firewood that night and no amount of beer taken internally or applied topical, provided relief.

That's just the right. Things look worse on the left.
I'm a Joe dirt that plays in the outdoors. Scratches and cuts are a part of having fun , and yes alcohol kills the infection.
Time to get prim and proper for dining out tonight

No more pets for me. They bring on to much love to bare. I work hard and play hard, a band aid means stitches or surgery . Lol.

Fun stuff tomorrow includes digging in the MUD on my hands and knees

Ps. I been wearing gloves so my hands are nice a soft from the salt.

Don't be afraid, dirt is ok

Picked another hundred today. Granddaughter was queen of clams when it counted. My yearly 7 day fun stuff run comes to an end tomorrow.
Without a doubt already looking forward to next year. Same bat time , same bat channel.

Very well may be an end to all things fishing until fall.
May your lines be tight.
Bring on the ICE !

Last season I was on ice for almost 5 months so add another 2.5 Jack.
I'll take 5 months of ice over 2 months of HOT !!
I only wish the daylight lasted more , I'd never sleep.
I haven't tallied up the clam count but it's over 400. Abot 75 are chowder clams though. It was tough going in beginning but we located the sweet spot the last 2 days of digging.

Some farm and garden :
stuff :
Dang deer knew I was away and decided to chew on my garden and Apple trees, yea my fault for not fencing in. I got work to do tomorrow.
The pigs are RIPE !! My caretaker made a huge mud pit and they are rolling in that.
I do have a clam bake on Tuesday and Wednesday. Next year I will probably raise I hog to roast this time next year.

Gotta run. Pool is calling
So long to Rhode island

Post likely does not belong here but this is where I'm gonna put it  --
Been lurking on that 'other' forum for a long time since a regular I  respect suggested a peek.
Sorry to see it closing as those were hard fishing folks over there with a strange sense of humor that I liked.
Never quite came to joining as one place seemed enough.
Cant find it today at all and it was reported as closing soon.
Good fishing and lots of fun to all those guys-tight lines----

The owner of the "other" site built it himself and paid for its maintenance, and he said he was tired of keeping it up, as his other business interest were taking a lot more time.  He seemed like a pretty good guy and he enjoyed a lot of fair and honest fishing in the salt and the streams of PA, and made dynamite looking spinners.  I wondered if he was fishing for someone to take over, but I have the computer skills of a land snail.  There was some talk that the ISP would not get around to deleting it for a while, so I am sure there were a few surprised individuals when the day after the "lease" ran out, it had disappeared.  For the most part, it was a guy named Harvey who I suspect is also regular here, and Two Bob and I that pushed the ethical and legal side of salmonid fishing, there were some guys who are on the fence, and the vast majority, especially most of the PA and NJ regulars, were out and out snaggers, even if they think it is OK to snag fish up toward the head and around the mouth, and call it force feeding or flossing.   Every now and then I would get a useful tidbit of information there, but for the most part it was a source of aggravation, like Salmon Crazy before it.

Eagerly awaiting the first SR Salmon report- actual report- not somebody said.
Sure to be immediately followed by a gas shortage at pumps in northern NY leading to the Sr area.
To be immediately followed by poor reports as a fish or two don't make a run.
Also the immediate thawing out of 'past due' frozen foods by area eateries to feed the masses.
Also the occasional pro report wherein a small pod of 5 fish travelling up is made out to be said run.
Followed by reports of 5 fish dead from hot waters.

Jack,
My dates have changed. Forgot I will be in CT for farm aid on sat 22 and basically the same group musicians in Saratoga outlaw festival Sunday 23.
That would put me useless .
I'd rather suffer at work Monday the 24th and head up on wends 26-29

They are also into nice browns over 200fow running copper line.
Sadly, I've been seeing big coolers full of browns so us bank anglers miss out.
Haven't seen a good brown run and spawn since 2009

So I coordinated my salmon date with my son. We will be coming Wednesday evening Sept 26, fishing Thursday and all day Fri, leaving for home Fri evening. Staying in a tent somewhere. If your at cannons, I can call and see about camping there.
He has been bugging me to take him and that's his available days.

Cool. I contacted them and will be camping there.
October will be tough, probably sitting in a tree.

Re: fun stuff 2018/08/21 12:07:20 (permalink)
I was up on the Tug Hill about 7 miles north of the river all last week until yesterday.  The lack of volunteers and the myriad tasks associated with setup of a 40 target 3D bowshoot kept me from doing the scouting and fishing I had planned for afternoons, but I did  speak to a couple of angler/guides in the know at the bowshoot.  Our club's Director of Security was an oldtime friend of Mr Moose, Moose taught him to row on the West Branch of the Delaware, and who used to stay with Moose at Sportsman's.  My experience with this gentleman is that he does not exaggerate or embellish.  He said he was at the Hatchery on Friday, and there were 10 salmon finning in Beaverdam just below the ladder.  The other individual, who owns the Midriver, the old Brenda's, charters on the lake and said they have been catching dark fish mixed in with the bright ones for 2 weeks.  Coming home yesterday, I detoured off 81 to retie my canoe, and took 2 over to 13 to get back on 81, and there was a car at the Compactor, this was about 2 PM.  Three weeks ago, I heard Andy Todd, who heads up LO fisheries for Ontario, say that they had had a run of about 250 matures go through the ladder on the Ganeraska in the third week of July, that's early.  So a push could come any day now, and there are scattered fish coming in every day now. DSR and All Seasons reports also echo this information.

Re: fun stuff 2018/08/21 12:54:24 (permalink)
When I had my place up there ( I miss it) -used to commonly make early to mid August walks on the lower river from up around 81  into town.
Generally it was casting and casting into pockets from 81 to the lower needle-usually all alone too. Don't recall ever catching  a King- just some bass and chubs- but it was fun to do and once in a great while ya would actually see an uncooperative King--- and lots of snakes.
Did I  mention casting and casting and casting and casting for naught--lol.
Just to prove ya don't have to catch anything to have a great time---
There was the day I could barely hear the live music from the town Green and I was walking a high spot  ( wrong  side).
Looked down into a pocket, a King tail showed and as luck would have it, there was a spin fisherman walking up the other side.
I shouted over that a fish was in the pool far below me and he came right to the pool.
He threw his egg imitation into the run above the pool and it disappeared in the depth only to reappear rising quickly at the tail.
Just as quickly a nice bright king dashed from the depth and turned to chase the egg =-taking it hard and fast and running downstream -FAST.
Fortunately the guy had a light drag and the last I saw either of them they were moving quickly down river.
About a dozen Kings blasted out of the pool going every which way.
GREAT memory.
