Boars
Here are some pictures Sam aka Mr.Crappie wanted to share with everyone... From Sam, this is my son Dan& his wife Brandy. They got these in May in Tenn. using chase dogs only. They had a lot of action in 3 days & let a couple of hogs go that were not big enough or that got to a neighbors ranch before Dan could catch up to the dogs.Although these were big hogs they provided a lot of good meat. The butcher down there did a great job making sausage, it was not gamey at all. As a matter of fact I think that it tasted better than Jimmy Deans sausage. They also liked the loins & ribs,& ham steaks.  [img]

 GOOD GRIEF them things put their snouts to the ground rootin for food, be lookin like a CAT D9 (with ripper) went through.  Sam congratulations to Dan & Brandy and kudos to Eman for assisting Sam.

DarDys, Estimated smaller one was approx. 300# ,larger one was close to 400# they had to buy another cooler to get the meat home. I was more than happy to help out with the sausage. lol sam

btdt, When we went to Texas on a hog hunt I got to see first hand the damage that they can do,I believe that they do more damage by rooting than they do to crops. I seen places that looked like bomb craters for acres. I do think that their senses are at least as good as any Deer. They do seem to be a lot smarter also. Both of these were shot with 1 arrow each & only went a short distance. sam

Great looking hogs. After having spent many hours on stand in SC a few weeks ago hunting feral hogs, I can attest to their smarts.

Has anyone seen the show (wild boar fever) on the outdoor channel ? It's about driven boar hunts in Europe. Very good shooting & interesting IMO sam

One of the gentlemen we met in South Africa in May does that. He said it is a complete blast (pun sort of intended). He and his wife invited us to go next year. If the budget allows, color us there.

DarDys, If you haven't done so already, look up the show on line ( wild boar fever) I guess that it has been on a while but I just found it lately. Being a dog person I think you will appreciate the small dogs that they use to help. I am sure that you appreciate the fact that you can share these experiences with your wife. good luck. sam

I caught part of one show. It looked really interesting. Gotta love the dogs!
Just picked up two more English Pointer puppies when we got back. They are mirror image males. They are our female’s nephews (she refused to come into heat for four years, so we missed out on breeding her).
They are of the age (12 weeks) that they have grown too big to easily handle and they are too small too handle like an adult dog (checkcord, wonder string, e-collar), so it is basically controlled or semi controlled chaos.

My new lab pup is now 5 mos old. Thankfully he is over those puppy razor teeth. They cut ya up while playing even though the pup has no intention of doing so.lol
