is kahle lake getting killed?

my buddy and I spent the Thursday before the bass opener up at kahle lake (june 14) - we usually fish at least a day or so before the opener to avoid crowds and since we never keep any bass this is usually a fun catch and release day.  we usually fish with minnows and crawlers and do real well on panfish too - jumbo perch, slab crappie and large gills.

well, the bass were there as we caught 54 - BUT not one was over 14 inches (most were 11 inches or so) and much more disappointing - we caught 2 perch, 6 gills and 0 crappie.  WTF??  this was the worst we've done for decades.  has anyone else observed this decline.  quite a few straw hats and buggies around - I think they killed keystone power dam years ago and it has yet to recover.

thanks,

The big bass regs are not working. Too many bass in that lake. Could use a good culling with 12 inch size limit instead of 15 inches.

The pan fish have taken a big time beating from Amish and English. Amish moved into the area heavily over past 5-8 years. Any time we get a good ice season, the pan fish get hammered, and then come spring spawn, they get pulled off beds. Double whammy.

With the drawdown going from 6 feet to 3-3.5 feet, this added even more pressure onto a relatively small body of water.

Just my .02 cents

we spent another day at kahle (Aug 23) and had a little better results - but still no perch or crappies.  we caught about 40 bass - like before, most were 11-13 inchers - but we got one 18incher and one 16 inchers - the first legal ones from that lake for us this season.  also got some nice sized gills but few and far between.  the surprise was one 14 inch brown catfish - first one for us.

I mourn the loss of a great perch fishery.
