MM just FYI on cost, FishUSA does offer price match. Just in case ya already didn't know.

I like the electric Ion,but didn't like the price of the battery if and when it craps out. I went with Jiffy Pro 4 generation 3. No problems in 5 years 150-200 holes per bottle of propane, and it destroys ice. I'm guessing about a inch per second. Starts of first or second pull. I'm rigged up a power drill on a 6" auger, very light package and cuts more than enough holes with two batteries. It another option. The Ions are.very nice though.

Took a quick ride down to Walnut Marina yesterday. Had to be 20+ tip ups out.. pretty sure I saw a Kid with his fly rod nymphing, looked like the dopey kid “Erie Flyfishing”, watched a little while and just laughed..

Clam plate and a cordless drill, you'll wonder why you ever lugged an engine to drill holes, like me. Or anything that weighed more than 15 lbs. Glad I found a sucker to buy my 24 year old eskimo gas auger last month. Ion is too heavy, unless you fish 20" ice 50 times a season, wait till you gotta buy a battery for that pig, totally cost prohibitive for pa waters...and it's heavy...you sweat drilling holes handling it, my 6" lazor with a cheap****ryobi drill weighs about 13 lbs. and punches more holes quicker than i can use, I can't believe how much effort it saved, hauling, handling, drilling, unbelievable

Thanks Meatball, my nephew is talking power auger so I watched a video on the Clam and sent him the info.  Price is reasonable and the new version don't require a guy to remove the chuck from the drill so ya can pre drill those ice anchor holes along with making feeshin holes in the ice.  BTW a twist bit works much better than a masonry bit and the anchors screw in with such little effort.

I'm not sure your info is correct on electric augar My IOn is 4 years old I have drilled many many holes it weighs 20 lbs nowhere near as heavy as my old strikemaster.I have the same battery, the same blades and it still works the same as I bought it. I havn't bought any gas no oil no sparkplugs,no cords nada.If you own an ION you would never go back!!

Hand auger was just fine I thought but we only drilled 7 holes.
I can see if you move around alot wanting a power auger or if we actually had some hard thick ice.WCW

5 or 7 extra pounds to drag on ice at my age is big....considering a gallon of water is 8.33 lbs, and that's about what a 1 gal minnow bucket weighs minus bucket and bait lol

I'm thrilled that works for you, wish I had that technology at your age, I used it its bad azz, I just found simplistic and lite weight, but also I'm using cordless tools I already have, which many don't have or need

Got my Milwaukee drill and put my seven inch lazor with it. Way lighter and faster than my Ion. Gonna sell the ion as im not going to be using it anymore. Its the original model. No reverse. Gotta extra battery for it and never needed to use it. $475 will get it. PM me if you're interested.

I just got a Milwaukee cordless set for work, stuck the drill on my clam plate, all I can say is wow. The Ryobi worked, but that Milwaukee is unreal. I forced a guy to drill a hole with it on Canadohta Lake today after he admired it, wondering what something so simple looking could do compared to his gas auger. Dropped jaw is what I saw, he couldn't believe it.

Dave, i already have the strikemaster hand auger which fits my needs perfectly. No need to spend an extra $260 if i dont need too. That K drill is heavier than my auger anyways. If my hand auger wouldn't have worked, i may have got the K drill.
