Crappie through the ice.

Any body got any secret tips on targeting crappy through the ice. Last weekend I got one slabber and my nephew got 3 slabbers. I got the one on a mister twister with grubs. His on pink ice rig with minnows. These were out of Misery bay. Crapppy can be finicky like steel head wrong colors or presentation and no fish. Any suggestions would be apreciated.

Not sure about the bay, but everywhere else I've ice fished for them, you better get out of bed.  If you're not set up by daylight, your missing the best bite. Have fished every hour of the day and night on other lakes in prime spots, nothing is as consistant as first light.

They seem to school a lot... hard to find , but once you do you can catch a lot. Be ready to move around

Very light bite down here, spring bobbers are a must.  Jig and a maggot seems to outfish just about everything.

Better too far back, than too far forward.

I usually fish a pimple tipped with waxworm.  In my opinion just about all panfish and sometimes even bass bite jigs with wax or maggots better than minnows, but on dead sticks I do prefer minnows just because they produce aggressive bites that you see, rather than have other bait picked off when you're not paying attention to the dead sticks.

In water over 7 feet  deep a fishfinder/flasher helps allot to spot suspended crappies.  If it's  7 feet or deeper without  a fishfinder, just fish 4 or 5 feet down, the crappies that are on the bottom will come up for it, and the suspended fish will spot it.

Where I fish you gotta be where there at when there eating for the big fish, the dinks on structure you can catch anytime.
