Bay bound by boat

So it's our first time fishing the bay on my cousins boat. Going up Monday. Forecast high in the 60's and sunny. Winds forecast right now NE at 10-20. Is that ok? I don't care about water temp...just wanna catch sum feesh. Anybody help me out I'd appreciate it.

"Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men."

With 20 mph winds they'll be 4fters. With northeast wind they'll be no catching any feesh.

What he said, NE at 20 not good. You couldn't ask for a worse wind & direction

There's always a place to fish in the bay. First off NE wind is the worst to fish, but my last trip to the bay was a changing wind that ended up NE but had little influence on the perch bite and a 3 man limit of jumbo's was the end results. Places that will provide protection are the cat tail island at the head of the bay. Small ice jigs and 1/64 lead heads tipped with spikes or waxies. 5' fow cast and crank 8'-9" gills and crappie. Crappie like split tails and small twister type plastics better than minnows but buy minnows. I'm pretty sure the perch bite is over but you might get stragglers off the city side piers Liberty in 20' plus fow. With that wind the city side will be less bumpy. The lagoons offer a good crappie bite and LM bass fishing. Best place to put in to fish the lagoons is a launch just past the Perry's monument. It's a no motor area. Good small mouth fishing just before you enter the channel to go out to the lake. Tubes, drop shot, live bait, crank baits can produce. Stop in a a bait shop and ask some questions. Poor Richard's are very honest and helpful. A couple of weeks ago Elk creek was full of quality small mouth, but I don't know about now. Good luck and report back on your trip.

Fished Perry's/Thompsons/ and the channel on Thursday and Friday. There were a hand full of boats out. Very slow day only got one smallie at the lighthouse.

    Its just getting started.

One of them did. They're RUNning back to the lake to fatten up on Shiners and Smelt! It's spoon season now.

Weeelp, yinz was right, NE wind sux!
Big Tuna thanks for the advice on other spots-we managed to avoid some of the wind there. But no luck in 2 hours. We went to the mouth of elk Sunday night (with no wind) and did well on smallies. Went back Monday after the failed boat trip and it was a hurricane down there! Not a bite.

Went farther south down 79 and got a musky in a lake. My cousin caught the biggest smallie I've ever seen.

Good couple days. But I will NEVER go out on Erie again in NE wind!

376, at least you went? Glad fish where still in Elk at least it saved the trip. Don't let one bad experience turn you on Erie. It still hands down the best place to fish in Pa. Perch report 40' water off the GE  stacks.. My buddy fished Tuesday 16 bass in the channel, and a 30 lb carp.lol  Good fishing to those that fish, and to those who don't keep posting stupid sheet.lol

I'm jealous man, seriously. I haven't even seen a Redhorse this year, and definitely not one that big! Got a few nice Whites to 26" though, thankfully all the bycatch was gone, Steelies are Fall/Winter targets, Spring is Char, Pike, and Suckers for me!

Nice reel, by the way, if I'm using a spinning rod it'll have a president on it!

I figured you'd like that Sucker ( not Me )... lol
She took a minnow and just smoked my drag, best fight of the day. Landed several Smallies , Steelhead , and one Catfish too ! Creeks were all flowing good.

I'm liking those President reels so far, got two last year. My old SS Penns are slowly fading away.

I have fished Penns for many years. I still have a few z series Penns and a few ss's. I switched to the Presidents because of friends bragging on them. I like them however tried to fish one in surf and it gummed up quickly. I brought it home and cleaned it and re-lubed and I am still fishing it. However I think I will keep them in fresh water.
Anyone else tried them in salt water?

There you go 👍, I can't seem to stay away from the bluewater this time of year but I need to check out the Tribs again soon for Smallies and suckers.

I fished them in SC a couple years back and it was fine for the most part. However, I'll tell you right now if they're fully submersed in water (fresh or salt), they lock up quickly and the drag goes to crap. Mine stay like this for 1-3 days after I drop them in (happens more than I'd prefer lol), but eventually they go back to normal. It'd probably be quicker if I greased them.

This has been my experience with most spinning reels, though, and for $40-60 I can't find a reel that's beat the president for the value yet. I may try a Supreme on my next spinning rod, just to see how much better they are.

Presidents are good, Purists are also worth checking out. Easily one of the best drags I've ever used.
