Mason Lake Hamilton county

Anybody fish Mason Lake in Hamilton County? I've been told it holds some nice trout and want to give it a try on Sunday.

i used to fish Mason Lake a lot 30 to 25 years ago
    notice the past tense, ago.
back then it used to be a good trout lake, not great but good
it was stocked with brookies & browns by the state
but in the last 20+ years it has become so over run with invasive (perch & bait fish) that it declined to a point of a non-trout lake.
the state has not put trout in there for many years and unless a total reclaim happens (which i have not heard will) it will not be stocked with trout
while you "may" catch a occasional trout it is more of a dink perch lake.

Thanks Tuna, I won't waste my time there. I have a neighbor who remembers Mason as a good Trout lake also. Maybe time to try Lake Pleasant again.

Dakota:  I fished Mason Lake in the late spring a few years ago & wasn't sure what was in there.  I spoke with some others that said the state used to stock it with brook trout but that there are Largemouth Bass in there now so they don't stock it any more.  I caught quite a few small Largemouth but no big ones.  When I was taking my canoe out though, a guy on the bank said there are some real lunker bass in there--just couldn't prove it by me.

It won't be long and we can start chasing the trout around again. The Oswego River will start to produce as early as next month.
