new-b's & know-it-alls

i'm a stikler for always learning and don't mind reading to advance my techniques. (except for spelling). i came upon a book that is well worth the money.
Fly-Fish Better by Art Scheck.
just reading the first few chapters has helped and i've been fly fishing for a long time. i got this book for a measly $3.99 at ollie's up in seneca next to the crannberry mall off of rte.322 it regurely sells for $16.95. it's well worth it! from knot tying, selecting a rod for your type of fishng and understanding how and when to use different lines and leaders and much more.
just thought i'd pass this along ~jerry

I second the "don't mind reading" statement, I have learned so much by reading books and articles, even just a little at a time.....

May the holes in your net be no larger than the fish in it.

I had a chance to read some of that book on Christmas when my girlfriend and I were visiting her family. Her dad had been reading it, and left it on the coffee table. It saved me from having to be bored out of my mind the entire time I was there.

Overall, it seemed like a reasonable book, filled with facts, and not just opinions, which is more than I can say about most of the recent books on technique. I agree, its well worth the money.

I was in Barnes & Noble yesterday and saw a book called "learn to flyfish in 24 hours". I dont even need to say what is wrong with that. I also saw one that was based on the idea that you catch 3 times more fish when you dont use an indicator while nymphing. I dont think I need to mention whats wrong with that one, either. I ended up buying a book by Dave Ames, that I havent read yet. I just finished his book, "A Good Life Wasted or Twenty Years as a Fly Fishing Guide". It was one of the best books I have read in quite a while. I strongly reccommend it.

Anyone else read any good ones lately?

If you guys are bored and looking for some fishing literature, check out "The Earth is Enough" by Middleton. It was the best book I have ever read, fishing related or not!
