SMOLTS...

SMOLTS... were thick today.
Fished one of the smaller tribs saw 8 adults but they were surrounded by ITY BITY SMOLTS.
I went home...water was low anyways,enjoyed doing some trimming of apple trees instead the rest of day.
 
Just a lil fyi I know some of you try to avoid them...WCW

    Don't worry, the resident Walleye will take care of them come April LMAO. Although in all seriousness, it's a mystery to me why the adult Chromers don't eat them themselves seeing as there is not an abundance of biomass in the tribs this time of year.

    I actually did see one yesterday eating smolts twice in five minutes it swirled on surface.
    This was a very active male in a small hole with 100's of smolts no other adults.
    These smolts were ity bity...WCW

    Itty bitty smolts could be one reason the return is small,if they were larger they MIGHT have a better chance to survive.

    4 to 6" smolts are dynamite smallmouth and walleye bait...just sayin..

    As soon as the lake temp gets to 45 degrees, time to get the boat out, head out to the Ws, put on the Erie Special (rainbow trout colored 5 inch senko), throw it out, light up a smoke while waiting for it to get to the bottom, give it a little jig, and repeat until smallies start whacking it.
