NY Spring Fishing

I figured I'd post this here since the NY board is basically dead.

A buddy an I are looking for a change of scenery while we fish. We both can get 3 days off this spring and we're thinking about fishing someone in NY. Maybe the salmon river? I don't know many of the creeks or rivers or anything there. So my questions are: Is the fishing good in NY in the spring? Where should we go? How far is it to these rivers and streams?

Well, any info is greatly appreciated, so we can start planning as soon as possible....thanks in advance!

Fishing from shore or the boat?

As a general rule, it seems the fishing for browns is best the farther east that you go, especially from the boats and the Niagar Bar is king when it comes to Spring Kings, Lakers, Coho, and occassional Browns and Steelies from the boat, from about the end of April to the end of May depending upon weather/how fast the H20 warms.

Deadbolt, the SR can be very good spring fishing but you must keep a eye on water levels. If there is rain and a thaw when you get there you could be looking at flood conditions, when that river floods it makes the Erie tribs seem tame by comparison,so if you're there then be very carefull.
Areas to try is anywhere you can park, there will be Steel thru-out the river. There are helpfull maps and info on Fishsalmonriver.com.Also,the smaller streams in that area get good runs in the spring run-off.By the way,a go to bait in the spring is worms, they love them.Flys would be streamers, woolybuggers, stones, etc.STUDDED boots are a must on the SR,it is very swift and slippery!

Thanks to all who replied so far, We'd be fishing the streams, and from foot.

We're amateur fly fisherman, but we'll be bringing both setups.
