WATER PUMP

So I get out there and crank on the 9.9 to get ready to troll and notice no water is circulating thru the motor.  Is there an easy way to tell if the line is just clogged or it really is a bad water pump?

Not uncommon for mud daubers and/or spiders to plug that small diameter sight tube.  Pipe cleaner or something similar like a small plastic wire tie will usually do the trick.  Generally the blockage from these critters is right at or very near the outlet.  Clean out the tube making several passes with your cleaning device.  Also, the plastic tube can be disconnected from the outlet port, crushed(gently),  then tapped to dislodge any blockage from mud.  Cocoon silk from a spider or other bug will be a bit more difficult to dislodge.

Tipping the motor will also reveal water flow from the water outlets, keep the motor in neutral and tip it forward allowing the lower unit to stay submerged.

Hope this helps and good luck.

you know BeenThere, I'm starting to see what my wife means about me having tunnel vision.  All I was thinking was bad water pump and what it was going to cost to fix.  The simple solution never dawns on me. Never even considered this tube could become plugged.  I removed that little hose and it took a kabob stick (her idea too) to clean out the plug of gunk that was inside.  All clear now.  Thanks.

I use to put a golf tee in mine,as I went down the road it is usually falls out. If not it comes out as soon as you start the motor. The tees are super cheap and no bug problems!
