boat trailer chains

My safety chains are bolted to my trailer. A friend said they need to be welded. I searched the PA trailer regs but I could not find anything on this. Any input is appreciated.

    I have never heard of that requirement. It may be for larger trailers but I really do not know. I have had both.

    Bolting should be fine provided the bolts are large enough to do the job. thats how the chains in my rangers trailer are.

    safety chains do not have to be welded. Yes I do have an inspection license

    But make sure you use the correct grade of bolts, if you use cheap bolts might as well not have the chains.

    Don't forget to cross the chains while your towing a trailer. The trailer chain police will spoil your day if, you didn't!
