lost gear

Yesterday while fishing at Acme Dam,I found a tackle bag in the parking lot.Along with the gear there was a copy of the guy's fishing license, but no phone #. I finaly got in touch with the guy with the help of WCO deputy Amil Zuzik. Although I was glad to get his equip. back to him,the guy could have saved everyone a lot of trouble, esp. himself, by leaving his phone # in the bag also. I suggest as I have before, that you leave ID info on your gear to help get it returned if lost.   sam

    Sam,
FYI, if you go to Whitepages dot com, you can find many listed phone numbers for people if you know the name/address or even just the name and town they live in.
Good on you for getting it back to him.  Hopefully good karma comes your way.

    Sam,
Excellent post. Too many folks simply pocket found gear. Congrat's on your honesty!

Sam, now that you have his picture, you can search it via Facebook to see if there are any matches. Just an alternative for not having a # to call. Like others have said good stuff for trying your best to return the equipment.

I would like to believe that most guys would return lost stuff if they could. My point in posting this was to remind people to have thier ID in thier bag to help get your stuff returned. I know that there is a concern for privacy but the license had his address anyway. And if there is an accident or medical emergency it would make it easier for someone to contact your kin.   sam

    Yes, kudos for your honesty.

With how much of a PIA is seems to track someone down without a phone number, I can see some people pocketting gear with intent to return.  I always just leave it sit, in hopes they will return and the dishonest folks don't grab it first.  I did find a license pinned to a hat once and lucky enough to have a WCO checking licenses that day and gave to him.  I've also found/snagged many single lures & bobbers, which found their way in my tackle box...  Unless I see someone lose the lure, or someone asks if I happened to find it of course.  I'll have to start writing mine on gear.  If you find my boat box, please dial 911 for me.

Don't forget about the Erie steelhead "fly swap"...  All you need to do is catch one in the lower section and you are set for flies for the day.
