What, no Yough Thread yet ?

Just got back on this forum since the changes took place ?  Surprised to not see any Yough River posting activity yet.

So, anybody fishing Smithton, W. Newton, Whitsett/Perry ?  And how has it been ?

I haven't been seeing many guys in Smithton. I live here. A buddy of mine said the current has been too bad.

Fished Smithton one day week before last at bridge (not 70).
Water was up a little and current was pretty strong.
Fished for one hour. Caught & released a nice brown, close to 15in.
Had one more strike but lost a good fish in the current.
Only one other fisherman on my side of the river.
Went back out last week and the water was too high. Too high now.

River is up a bit, with a fairly strong current, and a little bit stained. But it is fishable. I've been catching trout every time out for a couple of weeks in South Connellsville.

Is there anywhere on the Yough to catch gar? Or is that primarily the other two rivers?

I live in near the Yough and have never heard of gar being caught. Probably closer to the Mon near McKeesport.

Ya, certainly wouldn't go to the yough to target gar.  3 decades + of fishing it, and never have seen one caught.
