Lake near Laurel Hill Creek??

Turning off RT 31 in Bakersville onto Jimtown Rd to go to Laurel Hill Creek/Camp Conestoga, on your left there is a fenced off area, i think it used to be a deer farm or something.  There is a lake in that fenced off area, yeah I know it's private but anybody know anything about that lake?  Anytime I see a lake that probably gets zero fishing pressure the gears in my head start turning just thinking about how great the fishing must be there.

I believe the deer/elk farm was only on the right hand side but I am not positive.  I do know the elk we would watch were on the right.  I believe the property on the left is owned by the Sujansky family.  Since the fencing looks similar perhaps they owned the whole thing at one time.  Maybe check a recent platt book to see who owns what now.

That lake I believe belongs to Pioneer Park Campground. I believe you have to be a member of the campground. I fished the campground lakes when I was a teenager. I had friends that camped there. They had a lot of nice bluegills and I seen some nice Largemouth in there.

There are several lakes further east on 31 that are part of Pioneer Park but I think the one he is talking about is several hundred yards up Jimtown road on the left.  All the lakes at Pioneer park are after you cross over Laurel Hill Creek I think, the lake I am talking about would be before Laurel Hill.

Also I'm not sure about the current status but at one time Pioneer Park lakes could also be fished as a pay lake.  You did not have to camp there, just pay whatever the fee was.

I fish in that area often.  I thought that property used to be a privately-owned hunting preserve for various exotic and trophy animals.  It has been closed for several years.  I never see any activity within the high fences.  It looks like there may be some construction or drilling activity going on across Jimtown Road up on the hill towards Hidden Valley.  I've never seen anybody fish that pond and don't know of a way to access it.  The entire area looks to be contained by the high fencing.  I agree with the others that the lake you are referring to is not part of Pioneer Park.

There is a beautiful cabin on the water back there. Years ago they dregged it out and made it much larger. I have seen jet ski's being used in the lake before. That side of the road was not for hunting, but private deer stock by I believe the owner. He had some massive albino bucks in there. Hidden Valley own all of the property on the right side of the road now. The plan is/was to build a golf resort there. That is the reason city water and public sewage lines are being run to Bakersville all the way from Somerset. Now that 7 Springs owns it, who knows what will happen. He had some massive albino bucks in there.

Didn't know that about Pioneer being a pay lake. That lake on the right before you turn onto the road Pioneer Park is on is a nice looking lake. I thought it belonged to Pioneer because when I was there as a kid. There was a couple smaller lakes inside that you could fish but they also had a lake that had signs that said no fishing. I snuck back there on several occasions and nobody from the campground came back there. I caught so many BIG bluegills that I got tired of catching them. As for the big tall fence, those people used to raise Elk.

That lake is part of pioneer park.  The one the first poster was talking about sits on the left hand side of Jimtown Road and can't be seem from the Rt 31.

Pioneer Park had an ad in the paper this week for fee fishing their lakes.  $11.00 for all day and the lakes are stocked twice a week.

Ok. I was talking about the one on the right along 31 just before you turn onto the road Pioneer Park is on. I am not sure of the name of the road. Like I said before. Years ago, when staying there. I snuck back there and fished it and I was almost positive the one I was referring to belonged to Pioneer Park. You just weren't supposed to fish it. If you go up past Laurel Hill and turn onto the road that takes you to Kneppers ATV, there is a small pond on the right. I have always wanted to ask permission to fish it but, never like to bother people.
