East Brady

Took a ride up Sybertown Rd in East Brady this past weekend.  The ice is absolutely amazing!  If you have never witnessed this it is worth the drive. The ice from a month ago is in people's yard.  It looks to be 10+ ft high.  The river has lowered but the new ice now has to break up.   I hope/pray for a slow thaw.  I didn't take a camera (stupid me).  The boat launch is covered with "icebergs"  Does anyone know how they get that ice out of there?  Do they just let it thaw?  If so it seems like it would take months to melt!

Last time I remember ice like that was in the early 80s... and it did take ages to thaw.  If you remember the old bridge, the ice was stacked up nearly to the deck of it.  I know there were many who wouldn't have been surprised to see it knock the bridge out if it had let go quickly. Luckily it didn't
That area gets flooding caused by ice floes which get caught up on the curves or the bridge pilings and the back flush of water may move some of the icebergs out of peoples' yards.
It is truly impressive to see... gives you a whole new respect for the power of water!

Moving water will eat that ice in no time. We routinely get ice 5 - 6 feet thick farther up the Allegheny and it seems to disappear quite quickly once the water gets a few degrees above freezing.
