Boat(s) sinking off walnut

I heard that two boats went down saturday in the waves somewhere off walnut, did anyone else hear about this, and know details about it?

What waves? I launched out of walnut Saturday morning and thought it was pretty nice.

The lake got pretty gnarly last Saturday afternoon...The morning wasn't bad, but the waves were building all afternoon with those stiff East winds...

I was one of the very few souls who ignored the white capping waves & hoard of boats leaving and decided to go out anyways...There were about 5 trailers left in the lot when we left port @ Walnut around 2 PM.

I had 2 newbies along and warned them that we were in for a wet and wild ride.
We plowed our way out East about 7-8 miles and managed to get some lines in the water.

It was kind of fun surfing our way back to port-we even managed to catch a few fish along the way.  On average the waves were legitimate  3-5 footers, but we saw plenty of 6-7 footers mixed in just for good measure.

We fished for about 3-4 hours before one of my crew members got a little too green & lost his lunch.  We bagged it after that and ran in...

Why not launch at Lampe and run north instead of leaving Walnut and heading east.  it's shorter to get to where you headed.

We were on the trailer by 9:30a.  I had camp maintenance to do (leaky roof).  We were back on the water about 5, out of Lampe, and I was able to run WFO anywhere I wanted to.  Left our spot at 12 Mile at 9:30p and there was just a slight ripple on the water.

Guess I missed all the bumpy water.  My back doesn't like it anyway!

Either way I would've had to eat the waves one way or another.  It was my intentions to just set lines and make 1 long pass, but there was no chance of trolling into those waves.  And once we set up I didn't want to run back into the waves.

So yeah I could've launched out of Lampe, but I would've still had to run back into the waves coming home...So in the end I'm not sure it made much difference...We ended up about 2 miles West of Walnut by the end of our long trolling pass anyways.

It was crazy-our speed would varying from a slow crawl .5 mph up to 4.5 mph when the waves pushed us along...The fish didn't seem too mind, we still got a few...I'm sure with all the surging our bait spread was all over the water column...

Not sure about Erie. I was on Lake Ontario all weekend, but my buddy I was with talked to someone who was fishing off the point Saturday and said something about 2 boats going down. I think he also said it built to 3-5's. I don't know any other details, was just wondering if anyone knew the scoop.

Blow up as in explosion or blow the motor?

We've had that discussion on here a few times, I always tip the dog box up and run the blower. I've seen a boat blow once, not pretty...

This fella Glen took me out on his boat once and he started the blower motor while we were readying the boat. By time he put the trailer away the blower was runnin for a good 10 minutes. Than he flipped the dog house up for good measure.

Bass boats were all over this weekend scouting for the BASS Federation Nation Mid Atlantic Divisonal tournament. I was there Sunday and had a guy from the WV team tell me that one of his teammates sunk his boat Saturday. He said the guy had drift socks tied off from the stern and took 2 large waves over the back causing the boat to get swamped. He originally said sink, them swamped, so not sure if it actually went down or not.

Experience is the best teacher.  I'm thinking, he should have known better though.  Expensive lesson and hope everyone came out safe.
