The evinrude was a scam.. the guy busted himself on a  accident..Such as life

  That sounds like it could be quite a story. He didn't get your money did he?

Here's the story;

This guy and I agree on a price and we are going to meet Thursday night by Kinzua Lake.. He tells me that he cant stay because he needs to get to work but he can point me in the direction and for me to take what I need off of the motor.. I say sure no problem sounds great..

I'm swimming over my buddies house and I get to my phone and see that I have a missed call with a  voicemail.. I listen to the voicemail saying that the last text he sent me wasn't to me(which I didn't know I had a text at the time) and saying that he was sorry someone else offered him more money and can be there tonight for the motor.. So i'm thinking wow what a prick we had a agreement.. So I read this text that says.. "I don't care I make money off idiots not my friends haha" so by this time it clicks to me he was setting me up with who knows boat and was going to get my money and roll and I would never see him again.. Needless to say the POS wouldn't answer his phone

I'd never deal with anyone in that much of a hurry.  Selling stuff is never really fun, but something as expensive as a motor needs at least to be test run (better if on the boat).  Ask for compression tests, or buy your own tester and only buy if they let you test and acceptable level.  If they have reciepts of service, even better, and likely worth a bit more.  If you get that 50 fixed, it is doing what you need it to do.  If it is getting you and your load on plane, then it is doing it's job.  I highly doubt that overloading your boat is what caused this, unless you were well over your USCG max.  I've had mine to the max on the Ohio (not dealing with Erie waves) and was on plane with the 50.  I'm guessing it is just an old prop, that has put in more than it's money's worth.  Take your time, most likely mid Summer isn't going to find you the best deals.  Come end of Summer/Fall, you should be able to find a reputable seller, that doesn't want to winterize a motor they used 1-2 times and likely not planning to use again.
