Medical Excise Tax on Retail Receipts
This is an image of a sales receipt from Cabela’s, a popular sporting goods store.

“The 2.3% Medical Excise Tax that began on January 1st is supposed to be ‘hidden’ from the consumer, but it’s been brought to the public’s attention by hunting and fishing store Cabela’s who have refused to hide it and are showing it as a separate line item tax on their receipts,” the email states.

I did some research and found directly from the IRS's website information that PROVES this to be true and an accurate portrayal of something hidden in Obamacare that I was not aware of!

Now being sceptical of this I went to the IRS website and found this!
Q1. What is the medical device excise tax?

A1. Section 4191 of the Internal Revenue Code imposes an excise tax on the sale of certain medical devices by the manufacturer or importer of the device.

Q2. When does the tax go into effect?

A2. The tax applies to sales of taxable medical devices after Dec. 31, 2012.

Q3. How much is the tax?

A3. The tax is 2.3 percent of the sale price of the taxable medical device. See Chapter 5 of IRS Publication 510, Excise Taxes, and Notice 2012-77 for additional information on the determination of sale price.

So being more curious I clicked on "Chapter 5 of IRS Publication 510" And WALLAH! What do I find under "MEDICAL DEVICES" under "MANUFACTURERS TAXES"?
Manufacturers Taxes
The following discussion of manufacturers taxes applies to the tax on:
Sport fishing equipment;
Fishing rods and fishing poles;
Electric outboard motors;
Fishing tackle boxes;
Bows, quivers, broadheads, and points;
Arrow shafts;
Coal;

I think we have definitely been fooled, if we believe that the
Affordable Care Act is all about health care. It truly does appear
to be nothing more than a bill laden with a whole lot of taxes
that we the people have yet to be aware of!

    first, WALLAH?  it's VOILA.  second, even though I'm retired and on a fixed income, I recently dropped a grand (that should have gone elsewhere), on updating my boat's trolling capabilities. If somewhere on my receipts I paid an additional $23 so a child, or an adult for that matter, now has health care and might not die, then so be it. I have no problem with that. I would imagine most purchases are under $100 or $200, so that's only a few bucks we have to kick in so others can at least get some sort of health insurance.  So all you obama hating christian right wingers just keep on bit ching about the extra $1.84 you had to pay when you bought that brand new $80 spin combo. This atheist will gladly step-up and do the right thing without thinking twice about it.

    PP2 I think you missed the bigger picture ! This man is willing to go to any length to hide his true intentions. Of coarse having followers who stick their heads in the sand every time the truth comes out doesn't help matters either. By your own words you spoke of spending a thousand dollars on your boat when you needed it worse elsewhere. Sounds to me like your spending habbits and your lack of priorities are a mirror reflection of another man you obviously admire so mutch.

    WOW.
    pikepredator2 you have clearly drank the government kool aid. you have no problem with deception and lies the first thing you throw up is a child or adult dies, really. nobody will notice if we steal a dollar at a time. you have no problem with career welfare no problem with specifically being taxed for your choice of sport. here is this 12 inch thick book outlining the new health care don't worry about reading it, trust me, its for the children.

    Didn't say i needed it worse elsewhere, could have sat in the bank, or stones for the driveway, but decided to splurge.  I can afford it.  A few extra bucks to pay for health care doesn't bother me, financially or emotionally.  His "true intentions"?  you sound like a fox groupie, spouting the "obama socialist agenda". Got my fill of fox news pundits during the Romney campaign (yes, I was more than willing to give him a chance, followed both sides closely).  and Just Wanna Fish, health care for people is not career welfare, something i'm totally against.  I'm a retired mailman and remember the times long before access cards when we actually delivered welfare checks and food stamp vouchers.  You have any idea how many times I heard "why are you late with my welfare check, mailman"? All from healthy people fully capable of working.  I even wrote a letter to Corbett to start taxing peoples welfare after 1 year. At least they'd be giving something back.  You guys wanna hear the truth about GOP politics, just watch Rachel Maddow and read Ezra Kleins blogs, it's eye opening.

    wealth redistribution, gun control, government care are socialist ideals.
    i dont watch fox or cnn. maybe thats why when i look at what this guy is doing its not based on what a news channel reported its based on what the history books reported. millions died fighting communism. not just a specific part of it ALL of it.

    PP2-I base my opinions on what the man says and what the man does and the facts don't lie. I don't have to read blogs - his statements are published nationally and anyone that can read a paper - any paper -  can read his statements to compare what he says to what he has done so far and what he has promise others he is going to do. It's a fact that his mentors in collage were socialist/communist just as his father was - and we're suppose to ignore all this ? Don't get me wrong I've read alot of your post and agree with many of your points and opinions but have to disagree with your idea of good government. I can't believe so many people are begging our gov. to take something away that so many have died trying to preserve.
