PLANER BOARD LINE

time to replace the planer board line that came with the boat.  Do I want 135 lb.  or 200 lb. test?  Read a few reviews that stated the 200 lb. sagged and dragged.  Going to be running 3 rods of 10 color lead core if that makes any difference.  Pulling the boards with an 18 ft Grumman and Evinrude 9.9  Thanks

For dacron line 135lb is what you want.
I've heard good things about using the spectra planer line..havent tried it yet though.

I guess it depends on your boards.  If your boards are pulling hard enough there shouldn't be any sagging except possibly on a tighter inside turn.  I used to have 200# Dacron and didn't have any sagging problems, but then again my boards pull very hard.  Now I use 500# PowerPro with board snubbers and I like them better than the Dacron...mainly because the line is slick and the releases slide better.

    Ditto what was said above...

What kind of boards are you pulling?  Are they relatively hard-pulling?  What kind of reels do you have?

I've been running the Amish Outifitters Azek boards and they pull super hard!  I run a 19ft boat and have a 7 Ft Riviera Mast which I have mounted in the front seat pedistool.

I've used the bright orange dacron line that came spooled with the reels.  I believe it is 125lb or 150 lb test.  I've never noticed excessive sagging with the tow line.   This line worked fine on my old light pulling plastic boards; but this line is not heavy enough for the Amish boards.  Even while using the heavy duty board snubbers-I had the tow line snap this summer while fishing.... It sounded like a gun shot going off.  I was lucky enough to only lose a few releases,  and was able to retrieve my boards.  But it's definetley time for something heavier duty.

I've heard of guys running .080/.090/.105 dia. round weed eater line for their tow lines.  I don't think that you want to run the weed-eater line if you have plastic reels though,  because it can potentially crack the reels.

The other set-up that I've heard people using is a 500lb Spectra Braided line.  I've never used either of these two alternatives so I cannot comment specifically on them.

I prefer the Amish Outfitter Spectra, as do almost all of the captain's on our dock.  Stuff is TOUGH!

I do not like the mono or weedwacker line.  Clips do not slide easily when using light or small baits.
