Double overhand? Not sure what it's called, but it works. For smaller tippet though, I'll do 3 passes through the loop for a better hold.

I use either a triple surgen's knot or a blood knot.  Both will do the job.

Surgeon's knot (triple) is a heck of a lot easier to tie when you are on the
creek in 33 degree weather with wind blowing 20 mph or more, and just as strong.

I think the ease of tying all depends on what you are used to.  At one point or another I've used them all and they were all my favorite, now I use the perfection loop, to loop to loop everything and I doubt I'll every change. I can tie it by feel with my eyes closed.   Tapered leaders last allot longer this way because you can add many pieces of tippet before the heavier but section of leader needs to have a new loop tied to it. In my opinion it seems to be a stronger not as well.

i believe if some of you new guys would show where you're from on your members detail, maybe you might get more responses or have someone show you what you might want to know first hand, in person, when it comes to fly fishing, tying knots or tying flies. there's nothing like seeing it done than pictures!!! just a thought. ~dt

Well said. Don't know why more people don't put where they are from. Also helps when they want info for streams as well. Don't see where it hurts to put where your from, unless you live in Hootsowl population 1.

I've had the perfection loop fail on me quite a bit this year.  I'll be using the double surgeon loop on the river this year just to see if it helps.  I also had the cortland loops simply come undone on me about a half a dozen times this year.  Never while fighting a fish though.  I notice the failure whenever I either put on or take off my sinking heads.  I'be beem told that infrequent fishermen have found the cortland loops dryrot on them while sitting out the winter in their basements.  Like stillhead tho, I pretty much loop to loop everything.

Either the blood knot or the triple surgeons knot. Surgeons knot seems to work better as far as getting it right the first time you tie it. A word of advice coming from personal experience learn the albright knot, if you dont have a spare leader handy and all you tippet is gone from the leader your using then your kinda out of luck. Its fricly to tie at first but tie it a few times and you will be a pro.

I don't care what knot you use every once in a while your going to have a break off. Then your going to doubt that knot when you thought it was the best knot you ever tied. Problem is you didn't check your tippet after it had been pulled through the rocks and brush. The smallest nick becomes your weakest link and bingo a break off. Don't be cheap if you feel the slightest little thing on the tippet that wasn't there when you tied it on change it.

There will be days when fishing is better than ones optimistic forecast, others when it is far worse. Either is a gain over just staying home.

Every time you tie a surgeons knot, you put twists in the line. If I am just adding tippet to a line, I go ahead and use it (as guys said, it is quicker to tie for sure!!). If I am rebuilding a leader however, (adding two or more sections) I use the blood, as it kinks the line less, and leads to greater overall strength.
