Store Brand reels

Last year I purchased a Cabelas Pro Guide UL reel. I have it on a Berkley Lightning Rod 5' UL rod. I must say this is one of the best reels that I have ever owned. I recently purchased a Gander Mountain Guide Series GMS 30 reel for a 6'6" med. action rod I have. I wanted something not too expensive just to take to camp. I just opened the GM reel today. What a piece of junk. It's a 7 bearing reel. It is the stiffest reel I've ever owned. I took it apart to grease and oil it. The nut shaft that holds the bail housing was stripped from the factory. Just overall cheaply made. While I was at it, I decided to lube the Cabelas reel. WOW, what a difference. I don't know who makes Cabelas reels for them but this reel is 300% better made. If you are looking for a reasonable priced reel, look at the Cabelas Pro Guide reels.

My son said there is a year warranty on the reel he would have replaced it or gave your money back but voided the warranty when you took it apart.

Yeah, ida returned it. Gander. Is usually really good about exchanges and returns. If it was brand new there should be no reason to take it apart. Still worth a try exchanging it.

Can't understand why properly maintaining a reel would void the warranty. It was dry inside. I am gonna see if they will take it back. I'll get one of their Titanium series reels. They are a really good reel. Didn't want to spend that much on  a setup to take to camp but, I guess if you want a quality reel, you gotta pay more than $30. This doesn't make me not like Gander Mountain. They are convienient and usually give excellent service.

couple years back I went into Gander looking for a specific Rod and Reel combo. The kid waiting on me pushed and pushed the GM brands. I only go there for hunting supplies now. Most of my fishing needs are now met by FISHUSA.

Try taking it back, get a refund or at least an exchange.
    Good luck

Pflueger made a lot but not all Gander reels.
Their better noodle rods were made from St Croix blanks.
Wish I new that before spending almost $600 on 2 St Croix and a Lamiglas

I took that Gander Mountain reel back today. They took it back no questions asked. Was gonna exchange it but couldn't find anything I wanted. Many of their racks were empty. I was looking at their Titanium series and really like the smoothness. Just stay away from the reels that model # is GMS. They are junk. I must say though I was pleased with my service. I had this reel for two weeks before i got a chance to put it on a rod and they still had no problem taking it back.
