broken rods

Hi just curious on how many guy's that has broken a rod at the tribs. I was fishing yesterday one of the tribs and broke my float rod about 6 inches of the tip. That sucks. Just curious on how many others have broken a rod??????? I called st Croix today they said to send 50$ and I'll have it back in 3-4 weeks.....     Centerpin_drift

Broke an Orvis 8wt - 9 ft while playing out a fish - returned it to Orvis and they replaced the entire rod. AMEN!

huh... a couple dozen.  A few on fish, a bunch just the way you did. Fish got off, rod flew back and hit something, trees, cliff, one of the many concrete piers along all the streams.   several in car doors.

Two so far this year, one off the concrete wall at conrail tubes,  one trying to pull my line out of a tree, like a dummy.

Last year while fishing the New York tribs in early Nov. I watched a guy fishing below me have a Sage XP 9wt snapped in half by a big-ole salmon.  Almost sounded like a 22 going off.  Lucky for him his $600 rod was under warranty.

Personally I never broke one on the tribs....yet.

My first trip this year, my I discovered my noodle rod, which I'd never used on the tribs, was broken.  I mean, I pulled it out of the truck and it was broke.  I didn't shut it in the door or anything.  i dont know what happened, but I took it back to Gander and even tho I'd bought it months before, they replaced it.  So, I cant say if I broke it at the tribs, or if it was broken before that.

Skip, you almost made me smash my laptop screen. Bring back UPS!

On the thread topic. I broke two the same day, both the same way.
I tried to get a snag out of bushes by pulling it out. Problem was,
I grabbed the rod above the handle, snap. Twice. I was near Gander,
replaced, no charge. I waited a few weeks to exchange the second.
I think I've finally learned my lesson. To snap off a snag, point the rod at
the fly, and never grab rod above the handle.

BTW, never even returned the cases, so have two extra cases.

    centerpin,
Ok, OK, I'll confess!  Was walking along the creek, through the woods, talking to my friend and I walked the tip of my rod directly into a tree.   Just cut the broken end off and kept on fishing.  Landed 3 that day.  Left the rod in the dumpster at PR's and bought a new noodle.

broke my dan craft Sig V.  Second time I had used it, and I wasn't used to thin walled blanks.  I high sticked it pulling line through the guides and snapped it in the middle of the top third.  $25 and shipping later Dan had me a new tip section.

OK indsguiz.  I broke the same bamboo rod TWICE.  I broke it the first time landing a steelie and the second time just fishing for steelies.  After the second break, I have been told I am no longer allowed to use it for steelies...

    Bug,
You know, Confession is good for the soul!   Now don't you feel better?  BTW the rod has been repaired . . . Again!,  and is just waiting for the poly finish to dry.  Should be in your hands before the New Year.

Yes it is.  I guess I keep braking the rod so you have something to do...  I don't want you to get bored...  I will keep an eye out for the rod.  Thanks...

Ive only ever broke two rods, neither were fly rods. Neither on the tribs.

One, I hooked into a monster trout in the dead of winter before i gave up spin fishing and it cracked in half. The other two summers ago I hooked into a catfish at the lake and the rod exploded... still landed that fish :)

Now... heres the worst thing ever with a rod...

That summer that i broke the rod on the catfish I went the next day and bought a new one. Headed to the lake, baited up, cast out and set the rod down to help the girlfriend set her rod up. The rod bounced twice and across the lake it went. I still had the reciept in my pocket.

I had a friend back over a custom G-Loomis IMX, the rod was built in 94 and they credited the full amount through the extradition service somthing like $505 I only had to pay 50 dollars for shipping, no questions asked.  I think he did it on purpose, Id'nt that right Mike D?  lolol

Knock on wood, never broke one in the 15 years on the tribs but last year fishing in general broke a handful.  No junkers either.  My Loomis noodle rod fishing trout, don't know what happened there.  A lamiglas custom made rod in half bass fishing on the St. Lawrence river, not seated properly.  The tip of st. croix spinning rod on the side of my boat and finally my favorite Penn 8wt fly rod on a big salmon up on sandy creek.  Snapped the b**ch rite in half like nobodies business.  O yeah and a left a noodle rod and good shimano reel at the parking lot on Godfrey run.  What a dumas i am, never do that again fo sure.....
