Bullhead Spots?
Does anyone know of any decent lakes/rivers in NW PA that have good populations of bullheads? I know just about every lake has at least a few, but where do I have a good chance to get into some good numbers of fish, regardless of size? I fished Tamarack Lake one night in the summer and only caught 2 in about 2.5 hrs fishing. Oh and I'll be C&R fishing, just in it for some hopefully fast action catfishing fun! Thanks

I have heard Eaton Reservoir is great for bullheads but have no first hand experience fishing the lake for them. Beautiful lake though would be worth a try. Here is a link when they surveyed in 2008 they netted 417 bullhead out of the reservoir. http://fishandboat.com/images/fisheries/afm/2009/2x06_02eaton.htm

I checked on the PF&BC web pages and Tamarack Lake is one of the better Bullhead lakes in NW PA.with Wilhelm being a close 2nd.
You do not need a parachute to skydive. You only need a parachute to skydive twice.

Thanks for the suggestions. Pachuckles, yeah thats one of the reasons why I checked out Tamarack that one night. Maybe I just wasn't in the right spot or they just weren't hitting or something. KingKool, where on Tionesta Creek? I've fished the parts above the lake for trout, and I fished the outflow a few times in the summer and only got a few gills and rock bass. I wasn't really fishing on the bottom though.

Anywhere above Nebraska Bridge to the New Town Flats - look for the deeper pools of slack water. They ain't big, but they always seem to show up. If you're in it to eat them, I would imagine they'd be the perfect size.

At one time I knew of quite a few bull head spots. Not any more. I do not know what happened to them, but they have pretty much disappeared from my spots in the last 20 years.

a couple years ago we wnet down to nebraska bridge to fish with the kids. parked on the side with all the scrub and got out to fish. i noticed something swimming in a sinkhole off the side of the road so watched for a while to see what it was. it was full of young catfish 2-5 in. went back and got a seine and must have netted well over 200 little catfish bullhead i think, put them back in the lake. must have gotten trapped in the hole when high water receded.

Conneaute Creek in Erie county used to be great for yellows and browns but I think the lamprey poison killed them off.

We fished pymy from shore (linesville area) at night over the weekend with dead fatheads and nightcrawlers, we couldn't keep the bullheads (primarly yellow) off the line. Caught aprroximately 30 between the 2 of us in 3 hours and missed some as well. All small with a few bigger channels mixed in.

French creek & Sugar lake never fail to give up some bullheadz when I night fish 'em.
I was able to make it back up that way last weekend and fished Sugar from shore by the hotel and the PFBC access. By the hotel I only got gills and crappie, but I wasn't fishing on the bottom. I did try fishing crawlers on the bottom at the PFBC access but got nothing. Were you fishing from a boat? I was also there in the morning so that probably wasn't helping. Also fished French at Shaws Landing and Cochranton in the evening. Nothin at Shaws and no bullheads in Cochranton, but did get a nice bass.

Yeah, I'm usually on the boat when @ Sugar, but I have got em from shore @ the PFBC launch. (at night) I would have guessed you'd get some @ Shaws...the nighttime is the righttime. Geneva swamp would be a good spot to try too...with a good shot at some bowfin. (actually, probably more bowfin than bullheadz in there)

ive never fished for cats at french creek, but i know its a frustrating river. i kinda gave up fishing it much in the summer. if you go in a boat i think thats your best bet now, would be cool to see some big cats caught out of there tho. so much of the river is unfished.
