It is a Weatherby Ultra Lightweight in .240 Weatherby Magnum.  It has a Nikon 4 -12.

How do the ballistics on that compare to say a standard .243 ??

Always thought the lighter bullets on the .243 were a little small for dropping them in their tracks.

Around here you take out the front shoulders, if that deer can run 100 yards you probably just lost it to a straw hat.

It is basically like a .243 on steroids.  I shoot a 95 gr. ballistic tip an dI think the velocity is somewhere in the 3400 fps range at the muzzle.  Anywhere in the front half results in at most 25 yards and mostly 25 feet if not straight down.

I like small bullets.  When I used a .270, it was 90 gr. hollow points.  In my .257 Weatherby Magnum chambered rifle (custom, non-Weatherby rifle) I use 87 grain Hornady Interlock Spire points.

Kinetic Energy = Mass X Velocity Squared.  In other words, speed kills.  Especially deer sized critters.
