Frozen Guides

The guides on my rod froze all day long today(see my earlier post).  Does anyone have any tips on how to prevent this?  I saw a product at Whitakers today which I didn't buy (and later regreted).

Let me know if you've found a product that works.

Thanks

Having a rod with oversized guides can help.  Chap stick and ice off both work...to a point.

If you're having a problem with your reel freezing, spray it down with non-stick cooking spray. It's better for the enviroment and it won't stink up you hands.

Thanks     Try Stan;ey's Ice-Off Paste made by Loon Outdoors...was up at the oak sat 12/1 temp was 16 to 18 degrees and never had a problem..
I had to re-apply the paste every so often but the stuff works (like a de-icer)        give it a shot, its non-toxic so it wouln't pollute the inviro!

And it'll turn your reel yellow and everything slips including your hand - sorry Mike just my experience w/Pam.  Better off not getting your reel wet (preventive medicine)  Dave

When it gets that cold, I put the rod and reel down and break out the mask snorkle and fins usually have much better luck with a spear for them sluggish fish in the deeper holes.

    Spoon:

You only pay the frozen guides that like the Butter Flavored Spam sprayed on them.

Not saying this is about a fly rod but...We have this come up every year and every year I give you guys crap who use a fly rod for putting that stuff on your rods...not good for fly lines! ANYTHING with petrolium eats fly line!

Good to know. I haven't fished many below freezing days in a few years.
I was planning on a trip after X-MAS but I injured my already injured back at work and it feels like it's toast. Waiting to get an MRI. This stinks.
