IF1086-4 Switch Blank Spin/Pin Conversion

This is going to Idaho for Steelhead. This is a 10'8'' 4 pc 7 wt switch rod blank converted into a centerpin/spin type application.  ALPS Y guides starting and ending with ALPS single foot ceramic fly guides up to and including the tip.  Thread is gudebrod black NCP, Chrome Pac bay Trim, Gudebrod olive nylon.  Handle is natural and burnt cork, foregrip coming in a tad shorter for fishing slinky bags and holding higher up on the handle.  Reel seat is ALPS TRI size 12. Rain and overcast made for some crap photos.

What do you guys think about a 4 pc centerpin rod?  If there was one out there, would buy it?  Why or why not?

Very nice build. I have never fished a four piece so im not sure but have heard great things about the shimano clarus. Its a four piece as well and some ppl have said it is comparable to a loomis glx 3 power.

If there were more 4 pc pin rods out there i would have no problem purchasing one myself. The advancement in 4 pc blanks imo has made them every bit as good as the more traditional 2pc blanks. I own a few 4pc fly rods and they perform well and make transport and storage very easy, i think in the near future we will probably see more 4pc float blanks hit the market. Very nice looking rod Adam.

I agree, I would like to see more 4 pc blanks hitting the market for builders. Was thinking of doing something of this nature myself here next year, just wanted to get some input if a venture like that would be worth trying. Thanks for the compliments, Joel. Always appreciated.

For those who have used the Clarus...thoughts? Opinions?

For the money the Clarus is a great rod with plenty of power when needed and is enjoyable to play out fish. The Clarus has a GLX (3 power) like in feel, power and weight (light). The 13' don't feel like a 4 piece at all and think Shimano is targeting the "easy storage and travel" (39" when broke down). Guide ice will be the only issue I see with this rod (small guides). I have fished a few different rods in all price ranges and the Clarus is unbelievable for the money ($99).

Great picture, thank you for sharing.

I would say about 60% of inquiries where guys travel via airline to centerpin fish elsewhere bring up the travel issue and ask what is available in a 4 pc model.  Certain models of converted 4 PC fly rods work very well as float/pin rods, others not so much.  It would be nice to see a 4 pc Devoted C-Pin blank hit the market though....kind of a void if you ask me.

What is the length and the amount of guides that are on your rod Deathroe?

I am not a fan of G-loomis anymore after a series of unfortunate events between them and I, but that looks like a good piece of equipment for the money, certainly.

Cool, I am sure Shimano followed suit owning G-Loomis now, perhaps a similar (or same) mandrel with different quality of graphite, either way both rods are very similar....  Is that your video or just one that you found?

    Adam, beautiful build...

I'll be havin one of them there Clarus rods real soon, got to try that one out for the money. I'd be willing to bet that once theres a demand for those rods, and they're as good as Jeff says, Shimano be boosting the price up.

I wanna try (someones) out.  My friend had the Clarus spin rod with the Michigan handle on it, it was a darn nice rod for 60 bucks and actually had enough guides on it.
