Noodle rod reel

I'm looking to purchase a reel for my noodle rod. I had a shimano and I think they are junk. I'm looking to spend around $60 to $80. Any ideas?  Thanks in advance.

quantum catalyst and kinetic reels are pretty smooth, comparable to shimano in price.

You don't need to spend that much . Cabelas has Okuma hardstone reels for $19.99 for a nice trout/panfish'n . They have 8 ball bearings , 1 roller bearing. I purchased 4 for my perch rigs on the boat . They perform smooth enough to handle salmon / steelhead (drag) anti reverse is solid too! Front drag is superb. Each comes with a spare spool . Best buy I've found on a spinning reel in a while. DC

Guess you never tried a Shimano top of line Stella. This reel is so quite when steelhead pulling out line I have to keep yelling that I still have a fish on!  Get a reel with alot of ballbearings as that seems to help alot. Dam quick reel also good with magnetic drag only downfall is if you get this reel wet the drag sticks. There are numerous reels>> go to a shop and try out reels checking for play and slop in the spool and shaft and weed these cheap ones out. A little homework goes a long way.  I will stick with my Shimano Stella as the money spent was well worth it seeing I fish 70-90 days a year and reel is now 5
years old. How often do you use that expensive hunting rifle???

Okuma Inspira has 10 or 11 bearings and is very smooth.
    IS30 or 40 is a good size.

How can you even put a okuma in the same category as a  Shimano Stella? You need to fish one to see what it*S all about! Price is under $400 on Ebay not $500 like Cabelas and store prices.  I had a okuma ..they are OK but really no comparision, you get what you pay for!
That*s my story and I*m stickin 2 it!!

i did not put it in the same catagory.  i just pointed out the price diffference.  plus i want to see how many here fish with a stella as comared to an okuma.  for me i can't justify the cost for the marginal increase in performance.

Had a stella - used it for 2 years (sold it on Ebay) seem to like the sustain better. also have several stradics & they work well too. Got 2 catalysts & like them too. Had an Okuma & it didn't feel right (sold it also)  The GM guide series is OK for the price (got one of those too) The new Diawa seems to work ok too. The more I type the more I realize I have too many reels. Just won a VS30 and have yet to hook a fish with it so I can't report on that. If you're looking to save $$ go with the GM guide series.     Dave
