11/24-25 fly zone fishing

Arrived in Pulaski at 6am Saturday and headed right over to nearby Trib to check it out. Nothing happening so we drove up to the Lower fly zone and could not find a place to park! what a zoo, lots of people and little action so we went up to the upper fly zone as we always get into something there. My fishing partner and I each hooked up about 6 times with numerous stings while nymphing. I did best on very small micro glo bugs in orange or peach. Sunday was pretty much the same deal and tough to land them in the higher water when you cant chase them in places. Also hooked the biggest king salmon I have personally ever seen, but with 5lb tippet it didnt last long. Went down to the ballpark area in the afternoon just to look at some different water and went 2 for 3 in the pocket water. Never did go over to the Oak area.

sounds like you had a good weekend! I'm goin up this weekend while my buddys hit the Oak (joke). cna't see the point in driving 8 plus hours to fish the oak..I'll be doin the SR upper end on sat and half day sun. water level permitting their running 750 till fri night. What was the flow when you were there? 750???????? any way a 4 hr ride is a better bet. thanks for the info on the SR

Yes the flow was 750 when I was there. If it goes down to 500 I will seriously consider another trip.
Walking down below the ballpark in the shallow flats I was letting my line float down below me looking for a run when noticed I was hung up at the head of a 3 ft deep run on the left (near the big trees). I gave it a yank to free it and it turned out to be a fish that went ape s*** with my less than gentlemanly hook set. She leaped and darted all over the place but wouldnt go down in the big whitewater just above the short bridge. We were laughing so hard about the snag that became a fish that I could barely tail it. A small fish with a big memory.

Why were you fishing 5 lb on 500 to 750 cfs?  This is not a Spring Creek, and these are not little brook trout, espeially the trout, that are still ALIVE and KICKING****!!!!!!!

I had some 8lb with me, but wasnt getting many takes like everyone else. I switched to the 5 lb and started getting way better results.I only had one fish actually break off, and with the new and improved reel that I just bought to replace the crap one I was using, I am hoping to that it helps keep better control of the situation. We had good luck landing fish in the bigger pools but not so good when fishing the narrows in the UFZ. We admittedly still have a lot to learn though, but each trip we come away with a little more knowledge and confidence.
