Very nice work> Is there a reason why a guide is used on the rod tip instead of the normal rod tip ? I have noticed that quite a few pins are done that way.

Dave It aids in a few things, mainly from wet mainline sticking to the blank by a spin top bringing it too close, but this also helps to cast better allowing a smoother transition of line through the guides.

ORIGINAL: Loomis Dave It aids in a few things, mainly from wet mainline sticking to the blank by a spin top bringing it too close, but this also helps to cast better allowing a smoother transition of line through the guides. They are generally larger in diameter as well, which aids in less ice build up during the cold winter months.

You are correct about the ice-up tactic as well. The guides on this rod are arranged in 20, 16, 12, 10, two size 8, and then finished up to and including the tip with Fuji size 8Lwhich is a lower stanchion guide that still has the size 8 ring. Thank you for the kind words.
