6hp johnson outboard stalls

here is another outboard problem,, motor stalls when in slow trolling speed. It starts right up and has plenty of power but will not keep running when slowed down, throttle handle seems a little tight. I put new plugs in.Motor has been sitting for at least two years.  1969 model

Could be lots of things, but I'd try adjusting carb, sounds like it's loading up at idle. Could just need the carb cleaned, if it has sat for two years there's probably some varnish issues.

I know some guys used to have two tanks with them, one mixed a little leaner for trolling.

The older motors don't hold up well to the ethanol in the fuel. The linings of the fuel lines can break down and cause a lot of 'sediment' in the line that can clog a fuel filter screen up, or if it isn't filtered at all it can mess the carbs up themselves. Also, micro cracks in the lines themselves can be drawing air and messing things up.
We had to replace the lines and do repairs on the carbs of an old Merc motor due to the problems caused by the ethanol.
If it's just varnish a good dose of Sea Foam may make a difference and is worth a try.
You don't say in your post but after 2 years I would make sure your water impeller is working OK... Is is pumping a good stream of water?

Most likely needs a carb clean and re-adjusted.

Something I will throw out there though... I noticed in the last couple years with the ethenol is that a wider gap in the plugs is needed for an increased burn rate. I am not talking a drastic change just a few thousanths...
