Gas tank change

I have an older sears gamefisher 7.5 hp motor for my jon boat,it runs good but the on top gas tank is leaking. I think it's where the brackets are welded on. I tried to fix it with J-B weld but it's still leaking.I'm thinking of putting an external tank to it. If I use a small boat tank and priming bulb and run it right to the carb would this work? Has anyone done this? Sounds like an easy fix but I'm not sure if will work.

Even a bad day of fishing beats a good day at work.

Most likely no. Unless your mounting the tank above the carburator,or installing a fuel pump. Can always take original tank to radiator shop for repair.

There are many sealers that will fix your leak but standard J-B is not one of them. It is soluble in gas before it cures as you have already found out. My option would to to use a high grade sealer or have someone TIG weld your existng tank. They can purge it with argon so it doesn't explode. Good Luck ! Edit: JB does make a compound called Water Weld for gas tanks but I have never used it.

Thanks for all the help. I think I'm gonna try to take the tank off and try a radiator shop as dustydoo said. They can pressure test it after repair to make sure I have no other leaks. Don't know why I didn't think of that myself. Thanks

Travis46, I live just a few blocks from Noyers.I've had him do some welding for me before, he does great work. Didn't know he could pressure test tanks.I'll take it to him when I get it apart. Thanks
