Steel Ed's Lazer Yarn Fly

I have all the stuff to do this, but im not sure im doing it right,  If anyone has any input to make this fly look "prettier" i'd appreciate the help.  The picture attached is what I got out of just looking at it at the fly shop, but if anyone has any suggestions or knows how to tie this fly please feel free to input:

    Hey Loomis,

I know your looking for some cleanup tips on this one but If I was a steelhead I think I would eat it.  Can you let me know what your steps/materials were on this one?  This looks like something I would like to use this weekend and I have never heard of it before.  Thanks in advance.

I got it figured out, looked in Nagy's book this AM and found what I was missing.  This fly was originated by a man named Ed Bordas I think, He was from my hometown of Greensburg and he made this yarn called Lazer yarn.  They dont make it anymore but a fellow member sent me some of the yarn and tail material that he had no use for.  I always used to see Steelhead1 talk about using "Lazer Flies" in his reports, so it got me curious.

The way I did it was:

    6/0 Danville Flor. Red Thread
Size 14 curved caddis hook 2x

I just took a small piece of the thread like tail, tied it in.
Then took a amount of lazer yarn and tied in segments.  I pulled the yarn back as I tied it in, to the eye.  The yarn is very similar to craft fur.
    Make head, whip finish.
Use a toothbrush to straighten the yarn out into a tapered look (the step I was missing)
I tied a few with conehead and regular beads too

Its pretty easy and supposedly supposed to be fished on a swing, kind of resembling a flesh fly I guess.

    Good Luck.

Don't clip the yarn unless you want a squared end.

The pattern is tailed with Ed's tailing material. 2 x's the body length.
After the tail is tied in, the rest of the fly is tied from rear to front, stacking the yarn in steps.
Grab the whole hank of yarn in one hand and pull a small bunch out just enough so you can secure it to the hook.
Tie it in with a few turns.
Then pull the hank rearward, tearing it off the tied in piece.
Repeat that process until you get to the head of the fly.
Push any remaining yarn backward and tie off.
    tie-rip-tie-rip-ect...
You can change colors at any point.
If the fly is too long or too full, you can rip it to shape.

I have seen the lazer yarn for sale on ebay not to long ago if you need some. Also if i remember right worm_waster may have bought what follies used to have. Maybe he's the one offering it on ebay. You could always call him at fish usa to see if he has some left.

Dano's instructions are excellent.  The only difference is when the tail is added.  Ed showed me how to tie this fly years ago.  Start your thread near the eye of a standard salmon hook.  Lay a thread base back to above the point of the hook and add 3 or 4 stacks of yarn.  Now add the tail and continue building the body to about 1/4 of the distance between the loop and the eye of the hook.  Now you can add a second color if you wish.  Remember the second color should compliment the first color and use only enough to highlight the first or primiary color
Trying to get some photos up

The third one has 3 colors in: bright pink, red and orange.  It is not a very good photo but you can get the idea of how to tie them.
