Finger guards

I was preparing some old neoprene in order to make some finger guards and decided to take a look online to see if I could find any useful hints when I realized that I couldn't find anybody using them for the same reason I want them!

Everything I've found so far is in reference either fishing salt, using Sharkskin line, or working really big fish. I don't use Sharkskin or fish salt, and when I've got a big boy on I don't hold the line with my finger. So I wanted to find out if anybody here shares my mundane little problem;

The finger I hold the line against the rod with while I work the line absorbs so much water in a few hours that the skin swells and actually creates so much friction against the line that the line vibrates and skips off of it! This is really annoying which is why I'm gonna make some finger guards.

I saw some suggest simply using a bandaid or athletic tape, but I was gonna ditch those waders anyway, plus I figure 'prene guards will last longer.

Any of y'all experience this pruny problem?

    I can't say that I have.

    I do use finger guards for tarpon in order to keep form losing a lot of skin.

    Everything I say can be fully substantiated by my own opinion.

    do you think you'll be able to feel the line if you use neprene when you want to tension the line?
