We fished last spring and hammered them on purple jigs.  If your going on a charter we went with trophy charters we had a blast.

Creel have a trip planned the 19-22nd planned coming up...They are gettin em close right now (really havent stacked up on the reefs just yet) few weeks of stable slightly warm weather will bring em right on the reefs for the taking!!

Have always had good luck up there this time of year....I think over the weekend the wind moved alot of the ice back over to that area making it a little difficult to fish, however it will go away...few more weeks it should be on fire!

CB, I just got back from Port Clinton, you were right they were not on the Reefs yet, we fished in front of the Power Plant, 13 to 15 feet of water, got some but didn't limit out, the water was dirty, purple and chatrues and orange jigs word for us, did not see a lot of fish caught by other boats, we moved out to 21 feet just off the reefs, did do good there, it is supposed to be in the low 60's all week so next weekend should be good on the reefs, thats if it warms up that much, we did not fish today, wind blowing waves 5 to 7 not for us.  Good luck when you go up.  John

Fished Friday-Sunday in beautiful weather...got a nice red complection to prove it...lol

Limited every day.  3/4oz Purple/White hair jigs on Locust reef did the trick.  Tried trolling north of Niagra awhile saturday and only managed one 25" fish on a Chrome/Blue reefrunner.  But only trolled for maybe 2hours....

The amount of boat traffic was obsurd...lol it is non stop fish cleaning at the ramp from 8am till about 1030pm at night.  There are alot of fish out there.  We fun fished and prolly caught about 40fish in a matter of hours...pretty easy pickins...All fish we kept were 19"+ with the biggest being the one male we pulled trolling.

Fenwick marina is a classy place.  Having camp and your boat docked feet away a beautiful thing.  Wonder why PA doesnt cater to us with these types of facilities?  I would pay top dollar to have a camp and boat dock on Erie together.

CB....are you crazy????  We would have to pay $50 for licenses if we had those types of amenities in PA!!!!!

By the way, what do you think about paying $3 less for a non-resident OH license than what we pay for our own?

p.s.- Good job fishing....when are you going back?  I may be going in a couple of weeks again!  I'll let you know.

Im regretting not leaving my boat at Fenwick.  I really wish i would have.  PA is junk for Lake Erie access.  All we care about is raising trout....

I want to go back up possibly in a few weeks when the limit goes to 6 and the bite changes to worms.  I think next year i am going to leave the boat at fenwick for a few months (April-end of May).  There access is ridiculous.  I WOULD pay 100dollars a year for a license if PA had access to Erie like Ohio does.  It is overly impressive over there...beautiful excellent facilities...simply amazing...i applaud the state of OHIO for its proper use of its license dollars....Fenwick marnia is a GOLD MINE...

I won't even get into the PA vs. OH deal in here....but I put in at Catawba Island public launch and it was beautiful.  We got checked by an officer as soon as we got off the water and I don't mind that at all, but I haven't seen that in quite some time.  Oh yeah, maybe thats because I live in PA!!!  Anyway have you checked out the Ohio Game Fishing site by chance??  Here is a link...I think you'll be inpressed, especially if you love to fish as much as I do...and I know you do!

The hospitality over there was unreal and the guys on that site go out of their way to help a guy out.  Now thats something you don't see here too often!

    http://www.ohiogamefishing.com/community/

Scroll down to Lake Erie Fishing Reports and you will be amazed to find a lot of talk about none other than FISHING for goodness sake.  Within the first day of signing up, I met a guy up there who is a fabulous fisherman and knows his sh1t and even offered to take me out fishing!  He offered valuable info that helped us on our first ever trip out there.  He actually wants to come out this way this summer for some muskie action!  I also wanted to mention that if you wanted to ever go out for some muskie....anytime, just give me a PM.  Its the least I could do for your help and input Jeff!

Unfortunately, (I hope my wife don't read that!) the in-laws are coming into town this weekend, otherwise I WOULD be back out there, but I am planning on going back the following weekend....

I found that out a long time ago, even brought it up on this board. That also goes for Vermillon, Ohio especially a guy named Denny Braur. He owns the Sportsmen's Outpost sport shop there. That guy will help any way he can short of catching them for you. A lot of difference between the guys here and up there, sorry fellows, but  the truth is the truth.

I know Den...met him years ago at the Cleveland boat show...yes extremly informative...

I think theres alot more steelheaders in erie than walleye guys....THe walleye fishing is so seasonal if you are lucky mid june-september...thats less than 4 months...Ohio guys get em basically year round (including through the ice) so they are all about helping out and spreading the word...not to mention its not really rocket science....There are alot more guys down there who are serious about it...Never saw so many Pro V's and 620 Rangers in all my life...Not to mention the abundance of Sportcraft and Baha's (prolly cause they have dealers in the area)  Its just a whole different type of fishing with a whole different group of guys...

They are killing them trolling and it's a spoon bite now.  Put the stickbaits away!!  Most boats were getting 3-5 fish limits in 5 hours or less, ......    that's dock to dock.

Southern crappie fisherman who comes up every year for smallmouth fishing around Pelee Island in July.  I have no knowledge of how to catch walleyes especially around Pelee Island.  Any suggestions would be very helpful.  I got some hot-n-tots because I was told they were a good bait to use.  Thanks for the help!!

By July, you may have to head further East and for deeper water.  trolling is the most effective method this time of year(spoons, reef runners, harnesses pretty much whatever) but I have talked to guys who have done well drifting bottom bouncers with a harness after they've found fish, usually by trolling.  I also have a friend out there who trolls until he finds the schools, then stops and casts erie dearie type baits, countdown and slow retrieve.  You would find the most information about the Pelee Isle are at the site link below....ask anything there, they will be more than willing to help you.  Good Luck!

There are fish over there in july...just not as big and not as concentrated...probaly would have to focus on the deeper waters to be productive.  Dipsy divers and spoons/harnesses would be a standard to get em.
