Trout Unlimited

I'm thinking about joining TU.  Are any of you memebers and what are the benefits as to being a member?  Thanks Joe

    Joe,
Just became a member. There is some question to there view of oil drilling in Alaska recently. They do an incredible job of cleaning up streams and introducing our young to the environment and fishing.I'm taking a free beginners fly tying cource threw them.Great bunch of guys.I suppose it has alot to do with the chapter.I could care less about the politics though.I hope to do my share.

Some chapters talk a good game, some play one. Chestnut ridge is a good chapter and meet at GM in Washington every once in a while.

Overall TU is a good organization. They have been very active in the marcellus issue, as well as other big issues like pebble mine in Alaska.

On the local level my local chapter just spent thousands doing stream restoration on a creek that dries up completely in the summer, yet refused to play part in keeping one of the best wild trout rivers in PA open to the public.

Sierra Club is another good organization.  Been around since Teddy Roosevelt,  and have a very good bimonthly which contains a variety of consevation articles.  Check it out.

Though not local, the cause is there.  (The free backpack is pretty cool also!)
