fiberglass rods?

anyone use them? anyone like them? any info at all? i have been talking to jack about them, have seen them at the flea market in rogers, ohio. old stuff, for sure. thought about picking one up and having jack spin his magic. i reckon they are cheap enough at garage sales and the flea market.

any ideas as to what i should look for when it comes to condition?

thank you for any help.

I have a couple of 5 wt rated rods that really cast a nice 4wt line. Both are used occasionally. Conolon 6 footer and a Fenwick 8 footer.
I really do recommend fiberglass for beginners as they are a very forgiving and have a bit more feel than graphite. I think that feeling the rod load on the back and forward cast helps in getting the timing down.

I learned on a glass fenwick 7' 5wt. Love that rod. I put it up for now and hope to teach my boy on the same rod. I still use a glass 6' 4wt on some of the smaller streams in my area.

dano said it best.  I have a glass, slow action... suave casting.  Doesn't punch line like a stiff graphite rod, but surely bends nice for the load.

i have a sage 9 weight fiberglass, for sure a slow action rod, but yes, more forgiving and the feeling of the rod load is definitely more evident...

The Drake has a fiberglass rod that he let me try on Spring Creek during a Trico hatch.  It was a little slower than graphite, but laid out a nice soft line and was able to cast accurately at an acceptable distance.

It didn't catch any fish though.

I think he trained it to fish nymphs only.

Everything I say can be fully substantiated by my own opinion.
