I use, Fine Vernille, in an off white color, almost flesh like. I then cut the vernille into 1/2" pieces and burn both ends which gives it a black head on both ends. I use red thread and line the shank of the hook, and start tying in the 1/2" pieces throught the middle of the piece, tying in about 6 pieces and you'll have a cluster of maggots.

I was wondering why you tie with red thread?? I tie with a cream color.

I just do I guess, no real reason, but for this pattern, and sucker spawns, I use red tread...........No reason behind it other than thats how I think it should look.....

That is a nice pattern man.  Do you do well on the Steelies with it?

I'm heading up to Erie as well.  If I pick the material up this afternoon.  I'll test the waters with them tomorrow and Saturday and let you know.

all, i fish a latex caddis that looks like a maggot when i hear guys are catching steelies on maggots and wax worms. it works well mending upstream and drifting. i never seen a maggot cluster but it looks like a great pattern. i'll try it in white though. ~doubletaper
